Canon SELPHY ES40 Compact Photo Printer (3647B001)
-
Read, just read.
> 24 hourI print a lot of pictures using HP Photo printers. When I received the SELPHY from someone who bought it but never tried it, I wondered how this odd-looking printer would work. It worked so well that I hate to go back to my usual printer when I need larger-sized photos. It is easy to use, fast, and the results look great. I like the black and white option as well as the small prints. Ive recommended it to my friends.

> 24 hourMake sure to order at least one pak of paper/ink with this as it does not come with any in the box. Ok so you are thinking about buying one of these little gems. I purchased one of these the other day for the Santa Claus gigs I do. I am a professional Santa and this year we have added the ability to get a picture with Santa. I needed something compact with good quality and good speed. After reading about all differnt types of printers I decided to go with this one. This is not the first dye sub printer I have purchased so I knew a bit about them before. Lets start with setting it up, out of the box you plug it in load the paper pak and away you go. Open the side door to load the paper pack which comes as 1 unit paper and dye sub ink all in one piece. It slides right into the printer only 1 way it can go no way to screw this part up. Now either connect a camera directly through the USB Pictbridge connector or you can just pop in your memeory card. If using a memory card the pictures come right up on the screen and you scroll to the one you want and push print. Within 43 seconds from the time you hit the button you have a very nice very sharp picture.(even better than a print form your local picture printing loaction) When printing directly from your camera you tell your Pictbridge enabled camera to print and it prints in the same speed from the camera. Now the only down side with printing directly from the camera is that you have to wait for it to completly print before you can take another picture. For our Santa pics we do not have time to wait so I have interfaced my DSLR camera through a computer to speed up the process. So there is the basics in a nut shell but it does more. You can do some basic editing of your pictures like cropping and so forth. There are preloaded boarders you an choose directly from the printer to add a little zip to your pictures. It even has voice prompts, yes you read that correclty voice prompts. You can also choose to print the picture in a few ways like 2 on one page or many thumbnails like a contact sheet. There is software that comes with it but I have not even used it yet. There are differnt types of paper paks that Canon makes for this some with pre printed boarders like for Christmas, or foil print ones that will do a gold or silver type boarder. The pictures will last for many years they are rated for 100 years before fading also these pictures can be completly submerged in water and will not destroy them. So go give it a go you will not be sorry that you purchased this.

> 24 hourI just bought this printer last night and I LOVE it. I printed all 50 pictures in the photo pack with absolutely no problem. No, it doesnt come with the USB cord but I just used the USB cord from my old printer and it was a perfect match. I compared the quality with pictures I had printed from Target and they would equal if not better. I wish it told you how many prints you have left before the ink/paper is gone and maybe it does but I havent found the option yet. The ink is a little expensive but I think its so worth it for the convenience. I always have problems at the photolab, from the kiosks being down, to the kiosks not being able to read my memory card or disks, and of course, rude customer service. I took some awesome pictures of my tree and ornaments last year and plan to send them out next Christmas as cards thanks to the postcard on the back of the prints. Anyway, Amazon is selling this for over $200 and I bought it locally at Best Buy for $85.99 and I saw it advertised at Bestbuy.com for only $99. Its only $150 on Canons site. Hope no one pays over twice the price!

> 24 hourHaving had more than my share of compact ink jet photo printers, I was a little skeptical of the all-in-one cartridge system used by the Selphy ES40. I was also, however, tired of prints never coming out right, paper that was reluctant to feed, near interminable waits, etc. This printer is the modern day equivalent of a Polaroid camera. You just insert the cartridge (for 50 photos), easily select the photo via the dial (which works very much like Canon cameras (or like an iPod, you can spin it or click each of the four directions)), then press the print button. Out comes the picture with no fuss. It wont smudge and watching each color layer appear in succession is interesting, too. Take note: the printer comes with NO paper/ink. You must order it separately. And while the lab will certainly be cheaper, itll also take a lot longer and a trip to the store or waiting for the delivery. We got this printer to replace what Polaroids used to do... quickly print a picture with no fuss. It does that wonderfully.

> 24 hourI purchased this printer for my girlfriend. Shes not a very electronics saavy person and will usually not even bother to attempt learning about new gadgets. She basically plugged this printer in and was printing in less than 2 minutes. Picture quality was good. Printer speed was average/good so no complaints. The paper/ink combo kits are fantastic. You always have the exact amount of ink for the amount of paper in each package so you never run out of one before the other. Very compact and light weight. LCD screen is a great feature. Overall this is a great printer and very worth your time, epecially for such a great price! MUST HAVE! (Update 4/25/13). I have now owned this printer for over 3 years and its still a fantastic product. The reason Im updating this review is because of the drastic price increase. I purchased this product in 2010 for $50. It is now listed for $350. Its probably worth the money if you have it to waste, but because of the crazy price increase, I would look for something else. Now, If you do decide to buy this product in spite of the price, you wont be disappointed in terms of quality.

> 24 hourI purchased a Selphy and took in on a one-week trip with my Granddaughters through the Pacific Northwest. EAch night we would sit down in the camper and print out our favorite photos of the day and glue them into journals. We had so much fun making multiple layouts ~ great picture quality!

> 24 hourThis isnt my first Selphy but I like it better than my previous ones. I do a lot of traveling and I love the way this one is compact. I also prefer the way the cartridge is set up with ink and paper instead of being separated n the other version I had, less to keep track of when Im out and about.

> 24 hourThis printer is great for small here and there pictures that I want printed. I have a photo printer I used before but in the end this is more cost effective. To print about the same amout I have to buy 2 differenet inks plus photo paper about $75. I would only use this for small jobs because sometimes it doesnt accecpt some of the pictures on ur card. Easy fix for that is if u open up the pic in windows paint and save as and save as a jpeg. Pain in the butt but it worked for me :) over all Im pretty happy with this printer for what I use it for, I got it in a pkg deal when I bought my canon rebel for a sick price!

> 24 hourThis printer is amazing!! It does everything it advertises that it does. Love, love, love it!!! I take it everywhere I go with my camera. They go hand in hand. I have owed several printers and this one is by far the best. I only wish the ink and paper could be purchased somewhere other than just Amazon.com. That isnt always convenient for me.
