I expected a cheap tap, given the price, but this 1-8 tap still disappointed me. I used it to chase an already threaded hole in cast iron, way down in a deep well. It would not fit in my Lisle tap socket. The nominal spec for the flats on a 1 tap is .600; I measure my other 1 taps at .595+-.001. This one was .603 one way and .602 the other; too big for a tap socket. I had to mutilate it on a belt grinder to get it to fit.

Bought to thread in a Grovtec Push Button Base into a Luth-AR MBA Buttstock. Easy peasy

I’m not sure how long it will last but I don’t use taps very often and it served the purpose I needed it for

I used these to prep a new steel bicycle frame derailleur nut. Because the paint was in the threads, I could not properly screw on the derailleur. I used the more blunt one first, as I had already crossed the threads with repeated failed attempts, then I proceed to use the sharper one for a final cleanup. Very effective! Derailleur screwed right in afterwards.

I really wish they could have been supplied in high speed steel, instead of carbon steel. I tap some tough materials, and I have concerns how long these will hold up.

Nice, easy and quick transaction. Tap set was perfect for reclaiming a 10-24 thread on a tool that woud have cost $50 or more to replace.

I used this to chase threads in blind holes in an automotive cast iron housing prior to reassembly. It did the job I needed and after waiting for more than two weeks for the local hardware to obtain one of these taps, I had this one through amazon to use in two days for slightly less cost.

Drill America DWT Series Carbon Steel hand re-threading tas are used to re-thread damaged and/or jammed threads. Carbon Steel Hand Taps may also be used to thread mild steels. Hand Taps are the most versatile taps for hand use, or for tapping under power. Hand taps are popular for use in general machine tapping or CNC tapping. They are also appropriate for tapping the vast majority of materials in through or blind holed conditions. Carbon steel Hand Taps come in three styles: Taper Style: Starts the thread square with the workpiece. Plug Style: Generally used in thru holes. Bottom Style: Generate the thread to the bottom of the hole. A tap set contains 1 taper, 1 plug and 1 bottoming tap.
