Dualcomm ETAP-2003 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet Network TAP

As a security consultant, I was carrying an old metal 10/100 hub with its power supply, in order to easily tap a workstation or server without having access to a managed switch with mirror capabilities. I found this light switch (in its plastic version), powered by USB (it works on my laptop), with a TAP port (as I needed), Gigabit (at last), and the PoE support could be useful one day... Moreover, as I am in Monte-Carlo (Monaco, south-east of France), I received this item more quickly than announced :)

I do a lot of low level Ethernet packet analysis and this is a simple solution to use along with Wireshark for monitoring network traffic. Since you cant find hubs anymore this is a better solution that a switch which can hide traffic for things other than broadcasts.

The item was as described and was up and running right out of the box. Just what I expected

was used to carrying around old dumb switches to do packet captures and they usually die as they were old to begin with and the final straw was one dying in the middle of client down situation.....so in looking for another replacement stumbled across this unit had never heard of the vendor before but they had some big names on their site for what thats worth but getting back to the product in replacing an old hub I this rig can fulfill another roll as a replacement switch should a client lose one in addition to its primary roll and I thought the price was reasonable I do not use it constantly but when I have used it to do some traces it has worked as advertised

Great product. Easy to use. Doesnt get too hot. This unit and WireShark go hand-in-hand. I recommend it to any Network Technician. Big time saver with the zero configuration style.

Simple, no hassle, does what I expected. I prefer to plug it into a USB power adapter so not to confuse my simple-minded XP machine regarding an unexpected USB device.

Muy buen equipo, imprescindible

I found the DCGS-2005L to perform exactly as advertised. It is straightforward to set up and use. Its small size and weight make it a good addition to a IT persons go-bag. My one complaint, and why the 4 instead of 5 stars is that; Fot the price they could have thrown in a wall wart. Otherwise I think it was a good value.

It just works. what ever ingresses and egresses port 1 will egress port 5. I connect a computer with Wireshark to port 5 and let the fun begin.
