Im a longtime fan of Isabelle Hupert, and this role is perfect for her. Im glad her age is not a deterrent any longer as makeup and care can help great actresses play younger roles in films. We can enjoy Isabelle Huperts formidable skills much longer. Good thriller film with unpredictable plot.

Great movie! Dark, suspenseful, superbly cast & acted I’ve watched it three different times & found settle nuances I had missed prior. I would definitely recommend this movie to a friend.

This is a watchable movie. Very well filmed, wonderful set design. It has an intriguing plot that isnt predictable, and it doesnt lag. Great cast.

What a sick, disturbing film this was! Everything about it bothered me...I only finished watching to see if there was some surprise ending that would make this strange story make sense, but NO there was no satisfying resolution. The main character was extremely unlikable as well. I wish so much that I had not watched this movie.

Sometimes the stars align for a film, as is the case with the legendary French actress, Isabelle Huppert taking the lead in Paul Verhoevens in-your-face thriller, Elle. Both the story and the star are superbly matched, here. It is almost cliche to say that Verhoeven is controversial. Hardly any of his English-language films, from Robocop to Basic Instinct did not generate strident conversations. Elle was not different -- is no different -- in its uncomfortable look at the role a strong-willed woman plays in a still male-dominated society. A middle-aged CEO of a computer gaming company in Paris is attacked in her home. Not particularly unique, except that rather than reporting the rape to the police -- which, lets face it, probably wouldnt do any good -- she decides to take matters into her own hands and find the perp herself. She might have gotten more than she bargained for as the rapist begins taunting her, and without spoiling anything, when she finds out who it is it is not only surprising, but a bit anti-climactic. Verhoeven and his lead actress use the unusual, but clearly-told story as a vehicle for interrogating issues of sexual predation, sexism in the corporate world and much else. Rather well, I think.

Interesting movie about a woman who is raped and plays a cat and mouse game with her attacker all the while secretly in a twisted lust with the experience. Shes a powerful woman working in a mans world, owning a video game company and trying to live life and escape her past. With a troubled relationship with her son and his girlfriend, her man lusting mother and her criminal father she becomes obsessed with her attacker and almost seemingly turned on as well. Its very different, a foreign film that goes slow at times but def keeps you guessing.

confusing morality in this story.... if it was in fact a story; though somewhat entertaining, it was painful to watch and unpleasant imagining what the writer and director were trying to say. I fear it was not healthy or even accurate.

Great fantastic film! One of my all time favorites now.

Interesting movie. Not surprising given the director.

The French must really like their sex! That part was no surprise. But mixed in with a screwed up family and a collossal crime the story held it all together to he very end.
