I am great fan of French films and although this is a hard film it is one I had to see as it is brutal and honest. I cannot say I liked it but it was indeed fascinating and the story I am sure will be eventually told as an American film but I doubt it will be better done but it may be equaled. The photography and scene set up is flawless and the acting nothing short of excellent. If you can watch a film that brutally attacks you and makes one think of the victim standing up and dealing with issues that are all to common then this is the project for you. But, be warned you must be brave and not put off by the subtitles because this is a story that happens everywhere and as they actions speak louder than any words.

Excellent acting but a very dark cinema.

This was a great, great movie. I loved it from beginning to end. It had many surprises and took a decent amount of time in delving into the psyche of the main character. My only complaint is that it wasnt longer.

Im a longtime fan of Isabelle Hupert, and this role is perfect for her. Im glad her age is not a deterrent any longer as makeup and care can help great actresses play younger roles in films. We can enjoy Isabelle Huperts formidable skills much longer. Good thriller film with unpredictable plot.

Great movie--another foreign masterpiece. Great acting and amazing sexual scenes. Best foreign movie of the year ! You have got to check this one out--with a great ending. Saw it twice at the theatres and I bought a copy for my collection. Get this one!!!!.

It was entertaining although very strange actions by all of the characters - the ending just left me blank waiting on something to happen- my husband thought it was good everything was tied up for ending - he liked it better than I but I found it difficult to believe the craziness of the characters actions- even though he bought from my account I wouldnt advise anyone to rent for 5.99 maybe when it drops to 2.98

Im not sure why this was critically acclaimed unless it was because it was critically horrible. This is a story about a woman who is so psychologically and pathologically messed up because of her father and circumstances surrounding her upbringing that, instead of being horrified by being attacked and raped in her home, she uses the incident as a spring board to act out her demented sexual fantasies. I kept hoping the film would get better but it never did.

What the...?! This film is sick. Its a bunch of dribble showing the twisted fantasies of its creators. Women mastyubate about their rapists? NO, JUST NO!!! Absolutely abhorrent film, and despicable message to put out into the world. How could Isabelle Huppert even be involved in such a film?! She must hate herself and women in general. Im appalled that Hollywood chose to celebrate her with an Oscar nod for her performance in this piece of crap. If she had at least been able to pull off nuances of conflict, it could have made the film somewhat palatable. She just went right along with the sick fantasy of some very sick people who made this film. In a time that violence against women is so prevalent, to make a film that is about a woman who is not only unfettered by being raped, but actually enjoys it, is reprehensible. The makers of the film should be under close watch, because it seems that they may very well be sexual predators. I wish I could give it zero stays, because it is the absolute worst film ever created! People who think its good because its a French film with Oscar nods are just pretentious and stupid.
