Epson Home Cinema 2040 1080p 3D 3LCD Home Theater Projector

This is a wonderful projector. Pros: --1080p HD . . . the projected picture from my non-retina macbook air was so much better than what Im used to seeing on my laptop . . . it had an air of unreality to it because it was so hi-def --LCD means no rainbows --Easy to set up each time with a very easy-to-adjust front leg & two adjustable back legs --Has a sliding lens cover built in for protection --Plug-ins all in the back and their placement makes sense --Plenty of settings to make any viewing situation work (including in room flooded with daylight--not ideal, but we were able to do it) Cons: --Possibly the cost. If you dont see or arent bothered by rainbows, then this is probably a bit much to pay. The Acer H5380BD (a DLP projector with 720p) is a bargain and I would have kept it had the rainbow effect not been such a problem. --Not quite as portable as Id like and didnt come with a carrying case (like the Acer did) . . . but this is a much better projector.

This is my first projector. I love electronics, but would not consider myself to be hardcore about the quality, so I am sure there are better projectors than this, but I cant imagine a better one from a cost to value measure. I did a ton of research on projectors (including reviews here at Amazon, thanks to everyone else) and chose this model because it was going into a room that wouldnt be completely dark (so the 2200 lumens was a positive) and video games were going to be played (this model has an incredibly low lag time). My original goal was to put up a fixed screen either 110 or 120 inches away, so I mounted it at a distance that would work for both and played with the zoom to compare sizes before ordering the screen. I was just projecting on to the wall that was not painted with special paint and the projector had not been fine tuned, just pulled it out of the box and plugged it in. As I was comparing the sizes I kept marveling at how great the picture was just on the wall and decided to save a few bucks and skip the screen. I have had friends and family over to watch sports and movies and constantly ask their opinion on if they think a screen is needed and no one has said yes. The best compliment I have received is one buddy said he just assumed I had used a special paint. We have only been in the house 30 days, so we have a few repairs to to do in the basement. Once completed I will post some photos to show the quality.

With this purchase, one thing I have learnt is to always purchase products from trusted brands. My new Epson Home Cinema LCD projector is an amazing device, perfect for my basement home theater. The picture quality is impeccable, 35000:1 contrast ratio provides a very good rendition of black levels. 2200 lumens is just enough for my needs. Could not have found a better projector at this price. I am extremely happy with this purchase. The Good: Image quality, color rendition, brightness levels are perfect. 35000:1 contrast ratio Decent inbuilt speakers. Quieter than many other projectors I have seen 2 HDMI ports Light and Small Simple IR Remote The Bad: (which is not so bad) No optical audio port slight vibration (which is probably a normal characteristic of projectors, but I have seen Epsons that just do not vibrate - of course they are in a higher price band) All in all I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking to buy an inexpensive projector for their home theater. Features are good , 3d is best but wished would be a little brighter . PS4 works flawless, gaming is awesome, movies are fair too. And all who complaining about black levels and s*** are wasting your time .Understand this , for deep blacks performance even for TV it will cost around 2 gs for a 55 to 60 inch .Hell even 4ks couldnt cut it through , and the reason is simple it depends on the viewing distance , average 10 to 12 feet everything looks the same 1080 or 4k , unless u buy bigger tv which is all above 3grands .Dont fall for the gimmicks used , as a user experience and price this is a big bang for the buck .It deserves 5 stars for competitive price . Handy tip Use preset 3 for blue ray and 3d movies , will make a lot better .And if u dont care about lamp hours then use cinema bright , the best 100 inch in u r wall

My initial review is below. Ive now had this projector for two years and havent seen any issues with it. Its rock solid and reliable. Also havent had to replace the bulb yet, which is nice. If I was shopping for a new one, Id look for deeper black levels (these are OK, but not great) and perhaps something with a quieter fan. The sound is fine in ECO mode but gets a bit loud otherwise. -------------------------- Ill put it this way: the picture on this thing is good enough that I can watch a movie and not feel, as I used to when I had a TV, that I was missing out on the visual impact Id get from seeing it in the theater. Sitting 15 feet away from this projecting on a 6 foot wide screen, Im immersed, totally. Im projecting it at around 90 diagonally, and the picture is bright and razor sharp. Put on a well-mastered BluRay and youll be blown away witih the quality, brightness and detail, particularly in outdoor, daylight scenes. For darker scenes, black levels are not deep, inky black, and night scenes dont quite have the contrast of a higher-end model. But its definitely watchable. I would recommend using it on eco mode, which is still quite bright and apparently extends the lamp life significantly. Going from eco to standard makes the picture seem maybe 10-15% brighter, but makes the fan easily twice as loud. The good news is eco mode will be bright enough if your room is even moderately dark. Theres a 60fps image smoothing setting, common on a lot of TVs now, but Id leave it off for movies and TV unless you like that weird soap opera effect;. The one exception would be sports or video games. Im very impressed with this projector. My last Epson ran for three years without any issues and without having to even change the bulb, and so far (five months) this one is going great.

This projector is absolutely fabulous. The colors are great, the sharpness is fantastic and the blacks are great. I dont understand the complaint about the blacks. Im a graphics professional for over 25 years so Im in a good position to judge picture quality. Compared to my HC2030 the blacks are rich and appear very black. To judge blacks, firstly I look at visual experience, and then technically I compare the edge of the image to the screen (the part of the screen that receives no light except for the ambient light). The blacks will appear no blacker the appearance of the white screen. I can only guess that the projector needs to be adjusted to get visually appearing blacks. I use the eco mode and find the fan noise to be very quiet. Love this projector and I would ignore negative complaints about the blacks.

Noticed focus issue on 35 th day. Yes its too late. Amazons return policy is 30 days. Called amazon customer service and explained the problem. Customer service person was very helpful and gave me options of refund or replacement. I chosen replacement option as its best deal for such a wonderful projector. Amazon shipped new projector with two day shipping for same price even though I am not a prime member now. Great customer service amazon About Epson 2040 ================= I was using LG PA75U 720P LED projector for past 4 years which stopped working recently. I was in the search of new projector. Based on my need and hours of research, I short listed two projectors - Epson 2040 and Benq HT2050. I was able to compare both projectors side by side during day & night and with lights on/off. Though Benq HT2050 had slightly higher rating both from users and professional reviewers, I decided to go with Epson 2040 for below reasons Lower price (Epson - $499 vs Benq - $650 ) during my search for projectors Brighter and sharper image Watchable even during daytime with windows open Image is too bright (even in ECO mode) during nighttime even with lights on Longer lamp life (7500 hours in ECO mode) Cheaper lamp replacement cost ( $70 to $90 ) Portable and light weight Convenient lens cover Lower fan noise 2 year warranty I would recommend Epson 2040 if your requirements are like mine Wants to have 100 inch or larger HDTV Wants to have brighter and best picture Wants to use projector in living room Wants to use projector with lights on Wants to use projector during daytime or night time Wants to use projector as HDTV Wants to use projector 4 or more hours every day Does not want to spend half of the projector cost to replace its lamp

Colors are rich even on eco setting and there is no Rainbow effect (RBC). Its great but definitely needs some improvement with picture processing. On fast scenes, obvious pixelation shows up akin to lower resolution pixelation like how Minecraft looks like. Its not that the entire image pixelates but just some details/highlights in the whole picture shows obvious pixelation. I suspect the hardware or software does this to keep up with the fast scenes. Still this would be a great purchase given the $79 replacement lamps. Compared to a BENQ 1075, the pixels of the Epson 2040 are bigger and so the screen door effect is obvious when one is up close to the screen (1-2 feet).

This is my first home theater projector, so take my opinions with a grain of salt, but I am very happy with it. At the time, I was debating between this Epson 2040 and either the BenQ W1070 or slightly new HT1075. The vertical positioning of the Epson wasnt an issue for me, so the ultimate tipping of the scales was that this Epson went on sale for $699 (list of $799) at the time I was looking to buy. Brightness There are 4 varying levels of brightness than you can select depending on how much ambient light is in the room. During the daytime, I usually run it on the max setting to get the best picture. My set up is not ideal and actually have a fairly large bay window right next to the projector screen, but I can still manage a good picture in spite of the high level of background light. The downside is that the fan is working hard to keep the projector cool and is pretty loud on the brightest setting. At night however (which is 90% of the time I normally use it), we run it on the lower settings and the fan is practically silent. Color Shift? Im not sure what the correct term for this is, but as other reviewers have noticed, there is a detectable color separation of green and purples on the edges of still black and whites next to each other on a menu or setup screen. Im not sure what this means, but its definitely there when you get up close to the screen. But once I sit back down at normal viewing distance, I dont notice the difference. And I definitely cant see a difference when watching a movie or anything else. In the end, I may have been happy no matter which projector I opted for, but this one has certainly exceeded my expectations.

Ive been trying out various projectors over the past week for my bedroom. Im not looking for anything too crazy or too expensive, just a decent projector with decent image would suffice to watch movies from my bed. I started with very cheap models and gradually moved to more expensive ones. This is the 5th projector I tried and hence I had some comparison points. What I love about the projector: 1.
