> 24 hourIm pleased to finally write a review. The plastic casing is easy to scratch or to receive scratched so double check when the box arrives. Amazon and Visual Apex were very helpful and fair about returns. Aside from that, there is no need to calibrate the projector. This projector comes right out of the box ready to display brilliant, accurate colors. Great use with Finding Nemo 3D. We are using this projector against a painted light grey wall (before considering a screen) and it works great so far. Official reviews from magazines have stated that the black levels are not great. To fix this, I simply bought a ND2 46mm lens with a round adapter used on drones and secured it to piece of word. I noticed a great difference when I put the lens near the front of the projector while watching Star Wars. Space in the movie was now deeper and better. If anyone has any opinion, please let me know. I almost went for the Epson 3000, but saved the $600 by going this route and buying a replacement bulb for future. The Epson 3000 with a replacement bulb is $600 more. The Epson 3000 actually made the film Gladiator look washed out, syrupy and needed much more calibration. The Epson 2040 can really work well in daylight and on a painted wall. I looked at both projectors (3000 vs. 2040) in a store side by side and it was hard with the naked eye to tell the difference between the images. The 3000 was almost over saturated. The 3000 is better for placement from a ceiling. The small grey space I get along the edges of the image by raising the projector a bit is not too much a bother since the eye is mainly focused on the middle of the image - plus I did not think it was with correcting for $500 to $600 more and get the 3000. Believe me I was torn between the two, but went wit the 2040 since right out of the box it is hard to believe my entire wall can be covered with an impressive image. I tested motion with Star Ward and it worked fine.

> 24 hourUnpacked and set it up using its own shipping box for a projector table... couldnt wait! A few minutes later and I had it hooked up to the laptop and focused and keystone corrected - very simple set-up. Loaded a random episode of Vikings so I could send a surprise picture of the wall covered in vikings to the girlfriend, and ended up watching the whole episode, mouth open. Awesome quality. So glad I stopped the seemingly endless loop of research trying to decide between LCD and DLP... Im not disappointed, or even curious about DLP now. The fan is actually legitimately loud, but on Eco Mode it is quiet enough to forget about, especially once audio is on for whatever youre watching/playing. Eco Mode dims the picture a bit, but not in a significant way... I can see never changing it from Eco. I will be trying a camera filter to see if it can help darken the black levels, but its not as big of an issue as I thought it would be. Once you see Lagertha life-size, these things dont matter as much. One day into it, the only downsides are: - It heats up the small room after a few hours (8 x 12 x 8) - this room has two open doors but no windows... if the projector were to be used more than 2-3 hours, you might want more airflow than I have in this room. - For a white unit, a white power cord wouldve been nice. - Probably just a fluke, but no batteries for the remote came with the package. Will update after it is properly mounted and more hours of use!

> 24 hourI was in the market for a project for under $1000 and this one was constantly rated at the top of the charts. I have a dedicated room so I can control the light fairly well and was blown away upon turning it on. The quality and color is great and even in eco mode has plenty of light to show a movie with moderate ambient light. The project has vertical as well as horizontal keystone correct which helps mounting it as it doesnt have to be perfect. I watched a couple of movies now and love every single one. I have a 144in screen at 15ft back. While the projector looked good on my wall paired with the Carls ProWhite I was blown away. The colors pop and the contrast looks good. Im sure the contrast would look better on a higher end projector but its left me nothing to complain about.

> 24 hourThis is my first projector so I dont really have anything to compare it to, but Im very happy with it. I have it about 17 feet from the screen, which is about 6 X 11, and it produces a really good high def picture. I had my doubts about the vid quality at that size, but its really as good as what you give it. A blu ray or a good 1080p signal reproduces flawlessly. The fan is a bit noisy in the high mode, but I dont notice it when a show is playing. Some people have said they watch in economy mode, which is quieter, but thats not bright enough for me which brings me to the only complaint I might have. Sometimes I think the picture could be a little brighter. It could just be my screen, its a painted white wall, but I did do some research and painted it with something that is supposed to produce very good results. Its not a big deal and its only in certain scenes. The internal speaker is pretty cheesy sounding, but I Bluetooth the audio to my sound bar and its awesome. I think for the price, this projector is really good.

> 24 hourColors are rich even on eco setting and there is no Rainbow effect (RBC). Its great but definitely needs some improvement with picture processing. On fast scenes, obvious pixelation shows up akin to lower resolution pixelation like how Minecraft looks like. Its not that the entire image pixelates but just some details/highlights in the whole picture shows obvious pixelation. I suspect the hardware or software does this to keep up with the fast scenes. Still this would be a great purchase given the $79 replacement lamps. Compared to a BENQ 1075, the pixels of the Epson 2040 are bigger and so the screen door effect is obvious when one is up close to the screen (1-2 feet).

> 24 hourI generally dont write reviews but I wanted to do this one. This is my first projector, I always dreamed to have one and as soon as I had the possibility, I bought one. I am not an expert on projectors, so this is only a personal point of view. I spent a considerable amount of time reading websites, forums, reviews, opinions and whatever else there is available on the argument to decide what projector was my ideal one. Finally, I went ahead and I bought an Optoma HD28DSE. This is a great projector, with a great image quality. However I had some issues with the fan noise (even in eco mode) and with the rainbow artifacts. I watch movies with subtitles (English is clearly not my first language), and between the words constantly changing on the screen and me moving my eyes across it to read them, made the rainbow effects something I could not stand (at least with me). So I decided to try out a LCD projector and the Epson 2040 was my choice. I have to say I am impressed by the image quality. Its very good. The smaller throw ratio (compared to the Optoma) gave me an even bigger screen (currently just above 110 inches) and absolutely no rainbow effect. I keep the projector on a shelf just above my head and in Cinema/ECO mode you cant really hear it unless you really want to. The room is dark but not perfect, and during the day a decent amount of light comes in from the outside, but its not a big deal as the projector is very bright and the image quality doesnt really change much. As everybody else mentioned in every other reviews or forums, the black are not super good and the image tend to look a bit washed. This is true but again, its not a big deal as you may think. It is not perfect as some people would like to, but it not too far. It is simply very very good, and at this price, this is probably the best solution for those (like me) who cant stand rainbows effect. I rather have it a bit washed than fight the rainbows. And anyway, as others proposed, you could install a ND (2 or 4) filter in front of the projector to improve the quality of the image. All together I think this is a great projector. Extremely good image quality. Basically no noise (Cinema/ECO mode). No rainbow effects. Two years warranty from Epson. And super cheap lamp (compared to other models in the same price range)

> 24 hourWe always find that epson products just work and work. No difference on this projector. 4 years and on the 3 bulb, it just keeps wowing. Colors pop, black is black, no rainbow. This projector can keep up with fast action movies without skipping a beat. It is not as crisp as a 4K, or course, but for high end every day and videophiles, it is a reliable workhorse that doesnt let you down.

> 24 hourThis is my first projector. I love electronics, but would not consider myself to be hardcore about the quality, so I am sure there are better projectors than this, but I cant imagine a better one from a cost to value measure. I did a ton of research on projectors (including reviews here at Amazon, thanks to everyone else) and chose this model because it was going into a room that wouldnt be completely dark (so the 2200 lumens was a positive) and video games were going to be played (this model has an incredibly low lag time). My original goal was to put up a fixed screen either 110 or 120 inches away, so I mounted it at a distance that would work for both and played with the zoom to compare sizes before ordering the screen. I was just projecting on to the wall that was not painted with special paint and the projector had not been fine tuned, just pulled it out of the box and plugged it in. As I was comparing the sizes I kept marveling at how great the picture was just on the wall and decided to save a few bucks and skip the screen. I have had friends and family over to watch sports and movies and constantly ask their opinion on if they think a screen is needed and no one has said yes. The best compliment I have received is one buddy said he just assumed I had used a special paint. We have only been in the house 30 days, so we have a few repairs to to do in the basement. Once completed I will post some photos to show the quality.

> 24 hourStopped working after an 1hr. I was impressed with the picture quality until it stopped displaying video, audio carried on for a few seconds then the status light(blue) and Lamp light(amber) started flashing. Epson state the unit is effectively DOA. Their RMA process will charge your card the equivalent of another projector, hopefully Amazon returns process will be smoother. Update The Amazon returns process is always a breeze! I have had the replacement projector for several weeks and could not be happier. Excellent colors and picture quality not too far off from OLED. Great results even in a room with some light coming in via blinds. I havent mounted it and dont have a screen, walls a gray and I can move it room to room until I ever decide where to mount it permanently. A definite recommendation but I would do a burn in for several hours to make sure you dont get a lemon

> 24 hourThis projector is absolutely fabulous. The colors are great, the sharpness is fantastic and the blacks are great. I dont understand the complaint about the blacks. Im a graphics professional for over 25 years so Im in a good position to judge picture quality. Compared to my HC2030 the blacks are rich and appear very black. To judge blacks, firstly I look at visual experience, and then technically I compare the edge of the image to the screen (the part of the screen that receives no light except for the ambient light). The blacks will appear no blacker the appearance of the white screen. I can only guess that the projector needs to be adjusted to get visually appearing blacks. I use the eco mode and find the fan noise to be very quiet. Love this projector and I would ignore negative complaints about the blacks.
