> 3 dayI asked for and received this umbrella as a Christmas gift and intend to use it while hiking. Its large enough to cover my head & shoulders and my Osprey Exos 58 backpack. I like that it will provide both sun and rain protection. Im using it with the straps that attach to my backpack shoulder straps and I find this umbrella very light and comfortable.

> 3 dayThis is a remarkable hiking umbrella Only 7.3 oz without its slip case. Sturdy, good coverage, made in Germany. I am really grateful to have found it.

> 3 dayI carry this umbrella in my large (40 liter) daypack in the event I need shelter from the sun or the rain when I am out clearing trails. The umbrella slips into the exterior pocket along with my 18-inch hand saw. In this position the end of the umbrella is about head high. With an overall length of 25 inches this is not a small package. But since the shaft is a single piece the assembly is more robust than a design made from telescoping tubes. The umbrella is also a bit on the heavy side but in exchange you get a durable mechanisim that should provide years of trouble free service. With a diameter of 38 inches the umbrella provides very good coverage for a single person, limited for two. The coverage is enhanced by the ability of the user to nest their head up under the fabric. This is enabled by the high position of the trusses that support the fabric. I use this umbrella in a rough environment both in terms of hazard for the umbrella and in the weather I encounter. I find the umbrella to be a much better product than what I have used previously (many) and highly recommend it for the proper person and use. It is not light weight and it is not a small package, but if you can accept those conditions it is a very nice umbrella. I will be purchasing a second one.

> 3 dayI paid extra to get a European-built product, but it made in China by a German company. Very disappointed about that.

> 3 dayThis is one of the most popular backpacking umbrellas due to its weight. Works great in strong sun, and for rain, although just like any other umbrella, eventually your arms and shoes and pants will get wet. I read that it was made of fiberglass so I thought it would also be quite durable. In fact, the little joints that connect the rods to the canopy are made of thin plastic and they break in any moderate wind. This umbrella is way less wind resistant than a $15 umbrella. It may still be the strongest umbrella in its weight class, so I may even need to buy it again for backpacking, however put it away in any wind of any kind! I wish someone would come along and design a better lightweight umbrella.

> 3 dayI can’t attest to the sturdiness yet, as I have not used it in windy conditions...yet. But so far it does exactly what I need out to do. Protects from rain and sun without weighing me down on the trail.

Greater than one weekBought this on Ebay that does not allow product reviews. This is flimsy, collapses, will not lock. A very high priced item for non-durable quality. Wind blows it upside down to make a cup. No locking mechanism to keep it closed or open. OK for very light duty use. Not made to be durable like the Five Star EuroSchirm regular trekking umbrellas that are worth a few dollars more, and have locks to keep them open and closed.
