> 3 dayIf you are looking for a scanner primarily to preserve photographs, get this, sit and watch t.v., and just scan those pics! Only seconds to scan and much quicker than standing at my all-in-one printer/copier/scanner unit, lifting the lid, placing the photo, lowering the lid, scan photo, wait, wait, oh, and wait... This will scan documents, too, no problem. But my purpose was scanning and having the ability to save pre-digital era photographs, and this compact scanner is perfect for that task and very convenient to do while sitting - anywhere with electrical outlet!

Greater than one weekI liked the LCD screen which gave me an idea what I was scanning. The operation was easy but the scan quality was poor. I spent 2 hours scanning 300+ photo only found that there were strips on most of the scanned images. I used the plastic folder included in the package to avoid dust of old photo. The scanner was supposed to crop the image automatically but it was not perfect. Half of the time I have to re-crop in my PC. Last but now the least, the resolution (300 dpi)is too small. A 3x5 photo will give you less than 2M pixels - not very good for reprint. A sub-$100 digital camera can give you 12M pixels resolution easily these days. Because of above, I use Giinii to scan my bills which do not need high quality scanner. Now, I use my digital camera to photo my old pictures and process the pictures in computer. I have to spent some time setting up and do re-crop afterwards but pictures quality is much better and it takes less time capturing pictures.

> 3 dayI just received my scanner, read the directions which are easy to understand, then following those directions I got started scanning. Two problems I am having, I cannot keep my curious cat away and I dont want to stop, but seriously, one of the first things I did was scan a test picture to establish the orientation so I would not have to worry about rotating the scanned picture, insert the top of the picture first and your picture will then be heads up. I then started on my old family pictures starting from the early 1900s, ranging in size from 2x4 to 5x7, and it does a great job. For just starting I scanned 50 pictures in 15 minutes, and I think if I were not putting them back in the album it would go even faster. I am doing my family genealogy and will now be able to send these pictures to family. This is wirth the money and ease of use. I highly reccomend this item.
