Honeywell Security 6160 Ademco Alpha Display Keypad

Need to replace a failing Ademco (non-RF) keypad, then look no further. The 6160 is considered the best keypad available by professional installers. I’m just a DYI’er. 1. At the failing keypad with the system on, press and hold 1 and 3 buttons for 3 seconds and record location address. 2. Next, power down your system at the panel by unplugging the wall transformer and removing the wire from red terminal on all backup batteries. 3. Remove old keypad from mounting bracket (look on underside for tabs to depress) by lifting up from the bottom. 4. Take a pic of the wiring arrangement. Remove old mounting bracket and replace with the 6160 mounting bracket. 5. Attach wires to terminals indicated with using a small Phillips-head screwdriver (refer to your pic) and snap keypad onto the bracket. 6. Now back to your panel and reattach the battery wires and plug in the transformer. 7. Within 90 seconds of doing this, follow instructions on back of the 6160 box to change the preset location address of the keypad to the one you recorded earlier. Panel will register new keypad and reboot in a handful of seconds. Voila! Youre done. Should take under 10 min if slow and methodical.

It was what I needed to program a new system. It didnt have the install sheet though but the one from my 6150RF was applicable.I just needed to set the address code.

The female voice that describes the various devices that have been tripped is awful...essentially unintelligible if theres the least bit of ambient sound in the room. The quality of the audio is extremely poor- kind of like a cheap shortwave radio. This aspect of the keypad is worthless.

Item as advertised and worked. If you know what you are doing you can save a lot of money doing it yourself.

I needed to program some new sensors and local Honeywell dealers wanted $90 for a new one. This was much less expensive and works as advertised. If you program your own alarm or want to program your own Honeywell Vista, you will need this.

I see many comments about not working or keypad not displaying. The default address of the keypad is 31. Almost all scenarios will need to be changed to 16 (or 17). After connecting the 4 wires, press and hold 1 and 3 at same time for 3 seconds. Address 31 will show up. Change it to 16.

Good buy if you are replacing an existing keypad or adding one at your panel for ease of programming as I did. I do wish I bought the RF model because it allows you to add wireless devices to your system.

Stopped working after two months. Not sure what to do with it now.
