Kaytee Walnut Litter 18L

Greater than one weekI havent used this product before, but decided to spend the $$ for the heath of my birds rather than use something Im not sure about for the litter on their floor. That being said, there was a dime-sized hole in the bottom of the bag. So lots of product was loose inside the box, and (not knowing initially) much was spilled on my couch and floor as I unpacked the box. This is NOT a review of the product, Im sure its going to work well, and Ive used many other Kaytee products in the past. Im sure this, too, is fine. Something had punched through the bag, but there was nothing else in the box that could have caused the hole, and the hole was not a broken seam. These things happen, but it was a major pain to clean up!!

Greater than one weekWould have been 5 stars but this batch had a few split peas inside ? Not bad but had to pick them out as didn’t want any product that would attract mice.. I use this to stuff pin cushions…

> 3 dayI like to sew hot/cold packs and I purchased this for filler. This was ground to the perfect consistency and holds heat well. You may want to pre-sift though because I have found remnants (bits of peanuts and other nuts).

> 3 dayNo bad odor, doesn’t make a mess, doesn’t expand when soiled.

> 3 dayThis is by far the easiest lining for my cockatiels cage, I use a reptile bedding scoop and just scoop it out a couple times a day! Note: my birds have no access to this, it’s under the grate at the bottom of the cage.

> 3 dayI did not realize it was unsafe to be in the cage with the bird so I ended up not using the product to save his health.

> 3 dayMy bird didn’t like this product, it reminds me of sand. I will stick to corncob bedding.

Greater than one weekI bought this stuff to clean my firearms brass for reloading. Its exactly the same stuff being sold as brass cleaning media, but costs half the price. Just like with the walnut shell brass cleaning media... be careful to inspect the primer pocket and flash hole. This stuff can easily work its way into those cavities and cause you some problems if you fail to clear them prior to reloading your brass. Strange side note... I guess because this stuff is being sold as Pet Bird Litter, I found dried corn kernels, sunflower seeds and what appears to be watermelon seeds spread throughout the ground walnut shell. I removed most of the extra stuff by hand, what I didnt remove does not seem to bother the brass cleaning process. Brass still cleans up as it should.
