Leviton DW15A-1BW Decora Smart Wi-Fi Plug-in Outlet, Works with Amazon Alexa, No Hub Required

Great module. Doesnt require a controller/hub.

This is the easiest Wi-Fi capable device I have set up yet. Once you download the app it walks you through the setup of the device easily, it took me less then 5 minutes to get this up and running. I was using a Wemo Smart plug in my living room which was either losing connection with Alexa or it would take Alexa roughly 5 seconds to turn on/off the light. This was extremely easy to set up with Alexa and I have had no problems, the light turns on/off immediately every time.

I purchased the Leviton DW15A-18W plug in module along with a DW6HD-1BZ Wall Dimmer module, which I will review separately. I am a big fan of the Leviton product line, almost every switch in my home is a Leviton switch so I was excited to find these little modules that can be controlled by my Alexa unit. I have purchased a number of other similar controlled devices for my home but this little beauty was super easy to get online and working. I was up and running and integrated with my Amazon Echo in minutes. The real difference maker with this device is that it does not require a centralized hub like so many others, which will add price and complexity to your smart home design. The DW15A-18W runs on my existing Wifi as opposed to using it own network like so many other similar products. You can also control all the device from a separate app the Leviton provides for free. Following the provided instructions in the box I was able to quickly get the module on my Wireless network and after installing a simple skill for the Amazon Echo I was able to control it via voice command. I particularly enjoy the portability of the module as I am able to move it around my house quickly and easily for whatever purpose I need at the time. I can’t recommend this item enough if you plan building your own smart home network of devices.

Im curious about creating a smart home, so decided to try this wifi plug. Very easy to set up using the My Leviton app supplied by the company, Leviton - its wizard-like, steps you through connecting to home wifi. Its simple to use. I just have one thing plugged in - a Christmas tree, which is fun to turn off and on through the app instead of walking over and plugging it in and out. I connected to my Echo Dot by enabling the My Leviton skill. Voice control makes it even easier and entertaining - Alexa, turn on the tree. The My Leviton app has a lot of capabilities, especially if you have multiple plugs or other Leviton smart products. You can create activities, which enable you to group commands to be run at the same time. Another nice feature, which I plan to use even with the one plug, is schedules. Thisll come in handy to turn a light on and off at various times of day or night. Now that Ive toe-dipped, Im going to consider other products to smarten the home. It started out as a novelty, but Im finding it pretty useful.

Can not recommend. Bought two of these outlet switches and neither will work. They will configure and work for less than a minute then they lose connection. I have a small home, 1200 sq ft with a really good router. No problems reaching outside and connecting to things in the detatched garage. These will not even stay connected in the same room as the wifi router. A real shame since the light switches are so good. I had high hopes for these. Very disappointed.

AUTOMATE EVERYTHING. Muahahaha. But seriously, the wifi connection is solid and the timer features are super helpful. It also gives me peace of mind to be able to control interior lights while away from home.
