I bought both the 2-step and 3-step step stool. Even though an 8-foot ceiling can be easily reached with a 2-step step stool, I would recommend the 3-step. Because the 3-step allows you to stand on the second step to reach the ceiling. This allows you to easily hold on to the hand bar/tray at waist height while working and easily access tools placed in the tray whereas the hand bar/tray on the 2-step is about knee height when standing on the top step. But I will keep the 2-step too because the 3-step has a larger footprint length (2’ 9”) compared to the 2-step footprint length (1’ 9.5”). And some spaces in the house may not have sufficient room for the 3-step ladders larger footprint (see pic). I highly recommend Little Giant Ladders. I have used them for over 20 years. Here are some useful measurements: Each step is 8 or 9 inches high. 2-Step Ladder - Top Step Height: 18” Total Footprint Length 1’ 9.5” (figure 2 feet for maneuvering) 3-Step Ladder - Top Step Height: 26” Total Footprint Length: 2’ 9” (figure 3 feet for maneuvering)

Its hard to imagine a better built, more stable, more versatile step ladder than the Little Giant 2-Step Stool. It does several things that no other step stool Ive seen does. Those differences make it suitable for many more use cases than a typical step stool. What makes the Little Giant different? Three specific aspects of its design. First, it has very wide feet that dont easily sink into soft dirt or through a grate. This step stool is not going to sink out from under you or become unstable because one foot sinks into a soft spot but the others do not. Second, it has a safety bar that can be moved out of the way. Most step stools have he safety bar which makes it easier to stand securely on the top step. This is great if youre using this product as a step stool. It is a deal killer if youre using is as temporary stairs. The temporary stairs use case is not something most step stools can handle. The fact that this stool has a safety bar that is both tall and moveable means that it offers to best of both worlds. You can grab the safety bar and keep tools on it in step stool mode. You can move it out of the way for stairs mode. There are a handful of other step stools that have no safety bar but none that have a moveable one. Its not just the safety bar that eliminates most step stools from serving as temporary stairs. The other design decision that limits this use case is the bottom step. Just about every step stool, safety bar or not, uses a narrow bottom step or tucks at least half of the bottom step underneath the top step. Either way, you have only enough space for your heel when walking down the steps in a forward direction. This is not safe. In contrast, the Little Giants bottom step is actually larger than the top step and none of it sits below the top step. This final advantage not only makes walking down the step stool safe, but it creates a wider stance that further increases the stools stability. For my use case, the Little Giant is a dream. I own a huge truck camper with a side entrance. A set of two steps hangs down nearly 12 inches below the door. These steps ruin the departure angle of my camper and catch on rocks, berms...anything that sticks up. Because I take my truck and camper down unmaintained dirt roads, Ive managed to destroy my steps three times. But no longer. This step stool has allowed me to remove the stairs completely and get to places that I couldnt have gone before. I can stow it in the truck or camper when Im moving and no longer worry about catching my stairs on sketchy dirt roads and tracks. And when I need a step stool, it is perfect for that too! The bottom line is that I would give this product six stars of I could. It is that good.

I have two of the heavy duty little giants and they are my go to ladders. I needed something to use to get things out of the bed of my truck that was easy to take with me. This is perfect. Considered the 3- step, but it is not as compact.

Fantastic ladder. I love to see engineering in a product that is meant to make the item better and not just to make it cheaper and this ladder has exactly that This is a very well designed, solid ladder/step stool. I weigh 280 lbs. and that is no strain for it whatsoever. The rail not only serves a safety purpose but there is a tool tray on it. Even better, the rail folds down so the unit can be used as portable steps. I couldnt be happier with the purchase.

This is a very well made ladder. The construction and design are superb. The wide steps are so easy to stand on. My only regret is that I did not get the three step instead of the 2 step. But I will keep it.

This step ladder is just what I needed. The lower step is deep enough for me to sit on when I am cleaning the lower parts of the car. I have already found multiple uses for it. How I lived without it is a good question. The ladder is light and easy to open. The retractable upper bar is great for an additional means of stability when on the top rung.

Hey this is a little looser than an older version I got years ago and lighter but just as stable and easy to move around. I am a little older and the wide tread is great and very easy on the feet. I like Little Giant Products.
