You play Monster Hunter? You dont -need- this but it makes life a ton easier. It does obscure the IR sensor on the back and it makes getting to the stylus a chore.

Very light and fits in your hands comfortably. The plastic feels really cheap and it could break easily. It works perfectly and fits the orginal Nintendo 3Ds albeit having scratches on the product when received.

Firstly, this is not required to run any game on the 3DS, but the added buttons will improve some games. The 3DS slide pad expansion is the Japanese version of the circle pad pro. However, this still works on American systems. This expansion model is only for original 3DS models and provides an additional circle pad, two new shoulder buttons/triggers, and another R shoulder button. This expansion will only work on a few games. The Monster Hunter series, Kingdom Hearts, Kid Icarus, and Metal Gear are a few supported titles. Smash Bros is not supported. It is also worth mentioning the expansion makes the system more comfortable to hold. Mario Kart 7 requires you to hold A this is uncomfortable on the original 3DS, but with the expansion the game is much easier to play despite not using any of the buttons. The expansion runs on a single AAA battery. The single battery will last a long time, but itd still be smart to have extras lying around for when it does die. Its also worth noting the manual is completely Japanese, but this is not a big deal since the device is pretty simple to understand.

Exceeded my expectations. Durable, VERY long lasting battery, good price.

There are only a very small number of games that actually support the slider pads buttons (more on that later), but as a person with very large hands, I bought this to reduce my carpel tunnel pain and so far it has done that pretty well, much better than trying to cramp up my hands gripping that tiny device for more than five actual minutes of gameplay without it...so on that merit alone it has already paid for itself many many hours ago! It would be REALLY great *if* I could use the slider pads shoulder buttons in every--or at least MOST of the games I have instead of the (for me) too-hard-to-get-to shoulder buttons on the o3DS...how aggravating...would it really have been so difficult to add in this functionality via per-game hot fixes, patches, or through general system updates by now!? But, perhaps I dont know sh*t about the way things work, and will refrain from wanting what is apparently too much!

Perfect quality and works great on the NORMAL launch 3DS. Also my box was in Japanese and looks really cool haha.
