Nite Ize Original Steelie Magnetic Phone Socket - Additional Magnet for Steelie Phone Mounting Systems

Got a new iPhone and bought the (awesome) YOUMAKER case for the 2020 SE. Not being a huge fan of my original Steelie dash mount kits black disc on the outer shell, I attached it between the back of the phone and the rubber part of the case. It was okay, and stayed in position during bumpy rides, but the magnet wasnt as effective as before because of the roughly 20mm distance between the dash mount and the disk in the phone case. So I bought the additional magnet and mounted it to the phone. It is virtually flush with the back of the YOUMAKER case and even adds a splash of colour. A very good purchase.

This magnet does not seem to be as strong as the one that came with Steelie Ball I purchased earlier.

Ill continue to purchase these as I change phones/cases and need them. They work great with the ball and are the best cell phone holders Ive found. They are unobtrusive in the vehicle, only taking about 1 1/2 of space to install and work very well with larger phones. They really hold!

It’s the best mount ive ever used

This model of Steelie, which I bought for my wifes cell phone case, came with a steel plate and a separate magnetic ring. The problem with this design of Steelie is that the magnet on the reverse side from the ring has less pull to it than the ring itself. What this does is allow the plate to be affixed to the back case of the cell phone, while leaving the ring to be removable from the steel plate. When attached to something metallic, the ring will remain with that object while you remove your phone from it and walk away. We had the damn thing for one day before the magnetic ring was lost, leaving us with a worthless steel plate that did nothing to secure the phone to a mount. If you are considering getting a Steelie, do NOT buy the one with the mounting plate. It is a poorly thought out design and will cost you in the end. This is really a 1/2 star item, but because Ive used Steelies in the past, Ive given it a 2 star rating so my review will receive a bit more gravitas than a 1 star usually get. DO NOT BUY this version of the Steelie.
