Rio Grande Games Dominion: Renaissance

Ive never felt like a Dominion set has openly power-creeped previously released cards until Renaissance. There are just a lot of very strong cards for all player types. I loved every game of this that I played; however I felt like some cards from the past were going to be outright forgotten unless randomized in when taking this set into account. Its a great expansion, low on gimmicks and high on well designed cards.

There are over a dozen Dominion expansions, and this one is in my top 3 (right next to Seaside and Prosperity). After the most recent expansions which added much more complexity than Dominion should have, this was a welcome refresher. It takes Dominion back to what Dominion should be; Action Buy Clean-up. The villagers and coffers mechanism which this expansion adds is very intuitive. The projects are also an awesome way to tweak each game just a little bit without over complicating.

New variations on Dominion!

The Renaissance Dominion expansion goes back to the roots of what makes Dominion fun: namely, the cards are simple to play and understand, but they synergize with each other to create complex strategy. There is none of the extreme complexity that exists in some expansions (Empires, Nocturne). There is only one problem with this game, and that is the printing. Fortunately, for the copy I got, the backs are not noticeably different, so I will only take off one star. However, the front color printing differs drastically within the expansion and compared to other expansions. See attached photos.

Bought over the holidays and have played it several times. What we like about it is that it offers a greater variety game styles and strategies for winning these games than many of the previous expansions.

Ordered this as a gift for a friend. When they opened this today we were welcomed with what looks to be damaged cards. We didnt even unwrap it yet.

Projects and artifacts add a whole new dimension to the game. Artifacts in particular give you something to compete with other players for, which addresses the criticism Dominion gets for being multiplayer solitaire. I just wish there were more of them. This expansion is more approachable than Dark Ages, Adventures, Empires, or Nocturne so thats another big plus.
