Greater than one weekIm not a board games expert but I played this game once and fell in love with it. It is simple, challenging and fun to play. Not easy to find one for sale where I live, so I believe it is rare. But it doesnt need to be rare to be good. This game totally rocks and should be played by everyone who enjoys strategy games!

05-06-2025Im a fan of Go, so this seemed like a great game to try it. It totally is! There is a lot of reply value, and I still dont understand the best strategy. This is complex enough to make you think, but quick enough to play w/someone new and not thoroughly bore them w/hard thinking involved in Go.

Greater than one weekI am only in the last three months getting into some of the newer Euro games. In our house, we have Dominion and Carcassone: Hunters and Gatherers and I have played Ticket to Ride a number of times at the local game store on board game night. It seemed like a good idea to branch out a bit, and I had heard about the Gipf project on that game geek website. So, I took a chance and bought it. Yes, you can play it online, but it is definitely more fun to play it live with another human. The game is an abstract strategy game like Chess or Go. Since I have never played any Gipf games before the game seemed odd at the start, but took only about 15 minutes to Grok the rules. The game plays quickly -- usually a single game lasts less than twenty minutes; so, in that sense, the game is more fun, at least in my opinion that Chess or Go. However, how one develops a strategy for this game is still a mystery to me. Because the markers get flipped or change colors every time a player jumps over them with a ring, it is very difficult to anticipate the future. Overall, I find the game to be fun and fast paced. It makes for a very nice two-player game. Bought this at a local game store -- trying to support small businesses and the local economy -- although I paid full retail plus sales tax that I would not have paid if I had bought the game from amazon.

> 3 dayYinsh has what most abstract games lack; it is actually fun to play. The rules take about five minutes to learn, the concept is simple, and it will keep you constantly on the edge of your seat. Great for newbies and veterans alike. You will not be disappointed.

08-06-2025There are several reasons why Yinsh is my all time favorite abstract strategy game: 1. Setup takes less than 5 seconds. 2. No luck is involved. Its all about skill. 3. It incorporates one of the best catch-up mechanisms I have ever seen. Your goal is to remove 3 of your rings, but each ring you remove makes you weaker. Just compare that to chess and other similar games where as soon as a player has a clear advantage, that player is almost certain to win. 4. There are very few rules and the game is extremely simple to learn. 5. Its a super dynamic game. The higher the number of pieces on the board, the greater the tension and the potential for game-changing moves. Very highly recommended!

> 3 dayPurchased Yinsh because of the great reviews and it did not disappoint! Also my 11 year old granddaughter beat me the first 3 out of 4 games! It is quick to learn the rules but not so easy to win!
