Rio Grande Games Yinsh

Greater than one weekI bought and played this game a fair amount about 16 years ago. It had gotten forgotten about until a couple weeks ago. I started playing again with a buddy and we both LOVE it. I have now played with two other friends since, and they both stated that they were going to buy the game themselves. SUPER fun and infinitely re-playable.

> 3 dayI think my family thought I was crazy to purchase Yinsh solely on the advice of strangers but now that weve played it, Ive been redeemed. Very easy to learn which made it appealing to my kids, but its really challenging to win which made it something my wife wanted to play. A good combo!

> 3 dayThis has quickly become a favorite go to game for me and my wife. Kind of like a cross between connect four and chess but actually fun. This game can be quite difficult to master and sometimes just when you think youve built a decent strategy, you realize that your partner has trumped it with their own! Very simple to learn (watch a youtube video review).

> 3 dayFantastic game! Similar to the other Gipf games, which are all two-player abstract strategy (i.e., like chess) games. In this one your goal is to collect three rings of your color. Each player starts the game with 5 rings of their color on the board (placed however they like). By moving rings, you can place markers in your color on the board. Make a row of 5 markers of your color, and you get to collect one ring from the board. At the same time, your opponent can use their rings to change the markers youve placed to their color instead, and get their own row of 5. Because you use the rings to place/change markers, each ring you remove makes it harder to make a new row of 5, even as it gets you closer to winning. Be aware that this is not the original run of the game, so the box is different from the original. The picture on the Amazon page shows the original box art, but that is NOT what youre getting. If youre trying to get a matching set with the other 5 games be sure you get the correct printing. Beyond that, the game is the same, and though the pieces look slightly different they are still very high quality.

> 3 dayIm a fan of Go, so this seemed like a great game to try it. It totally is! There is a lot of reply value, and I still dont understand the best strategy. This is complex enough to make you think, but quick enough to play w/someone new and not thoroughly bore them w/hard thinking involved in Go.

> 3 dayThis is my favorite of the GIPF series of games that Ive played (although all the others are worthwhile, too). The making of a great game is one in which the rules are relatively easy to grasp, but the strategy has many levels of complexity, and that is certainly the case here. Its a very engaging game, where a single move can change the situation so drastically that thinking more than a couple moves ahead is nearly impossible. If you are a fan of abstract strategy games, I highly recommend this one.

> 3 dayChips and pieces are beautiful and solid. I like the weight in my hand. Game is the easy to learn, lifetime to master type. My new favorite game.

Greater than one weekThis game is fabulous; my boys are already realizing how to strategize in this game (as am I). You will not be disappointed - this is the new chess/othello/checkers/chinese checkers game of the future! This game will keep you on your toes and will give hours of enjoyable head scratching play!
