Scotch Thermal Laminator, 2 Roller System for a Professional Finish, Use for Home, Office or School, Suitable for use with Photos (TL901X)

I had never given any real thought to acquiring a laminator for my home office, but I ran into a situation where I really needed one. Amazon offered a few other models at somewhat lower prices, but I decided to spend the extra few dollars on the name brand Scotch. Very glad that I did. Device heats up reasonably quickly (just a few minutes time). Feeder works flawlessly. Laminations of small and large size (business card size, letter paper size) feed easily and the laminated sheets look professionally done - no gaps, bubbles, or creases. Now that I have such a device, Im finding quite a few uses for it. Very pleased with this purchase.

Purchased this when it was a daily Amazon special and am so happy I did! Ive used it to laminate aging sheet music and to protect recipes from the ravages of kitchen spills. Both were easily and quickly done, with great results. The Laminator: Its a lightweight, small footprint device that is very simple to operate. On/Off switch, a release lever to use if the item you are laminating jams, and a 3mm or 5mm switch - relates to the thickness of whatever you are laminating; use the 5mm for thick paper or two regular sheets of paper which are back to back. The 5mm setting is the hottest and the machine takes about 8 minutes to heat up for initial use at this setting. When placing two regular sheets of paper back to back (with recipes on each side), inserting them in the 9 x 12 pouches with the crease into the machine first (any bubbles escape out the open end), I was able to laminate my project in less than 10 seconds. Very quick and easy, and the front end (the part that comes out of the machine first) is cool to the touch with the end out last cooling off in approximately 15 seconds. The laminator remains hot and after multiple sheets, I noticed no change in the output quality of this laminator. The Pouches: The laminating pouches that are used with this machine come in several brands including the Scotch brand. All are on Amazon and you can choose smaller sizes than the 2 large sized ones that come with this unit, but Id suggest the same size and if you choose to laminate two smaller items you can simply use one pouch and cut the final sheet into two. Tips: Make sure when you are laminating that you have at least a quarter inch around the item you are laminating so that the pouch can adhere to itself - sealing the sides and protecting your item. If you leave the item sticking out, proper adhesion cant occur. Dont put lumpy items in the machine to be laminated. This will jam the machine and wont get the item laminated! The only thing would if these things would have a tray both sides so paper cut up small won’t move causing you a need to hold a book under it coming in. Going out if you have anything in the way it will ripple and if you leave the top part in if I didn’t come all the way out. A simple fix is putting it back through works to get that out for me.

Ease of use. Simplistic. Be informed of what size the lamination sheets and the thickness before you buy. Too thick of lamination sheets will not adhere due to the machines maximum heat settings. I believe this one has a max setting for 5 mils and minimum of 3 mils by a maximum width of 9 inches. I bought generic sealing sheets 3 mils at local big box store (250 count). Worked great, and room for 3 hole puncher too.

This has worked really well in the classroom. After multiple uses, one side didn’t feed as well or at all like the other, so the laminating sheet was crooked, bunched, and ruined. However, the last time we pulled it out to use it, it was working fine again.

Well worth the cost (which is reasonable)! It’s perfect for what I needed it for. I laminate call cards for my softball team.

Works great but if you have a big project you will have to break it up and do it in small batches. Machine gets really got and starts to have issues after an couple hours of use. Otherwise heats up quickly and works great.
