Easy to install

This would have been a 5 star item if it came with a post made of the same material. To make it solid and durable I used 2 gilbralter anchor post bought through Amazon and concreted them. I also reversed the bottom portion then placed the mailbox on top. I did this because when I placed it as pictured it looked like it was pitching forward too much. The reversed position gives it a different look but one that is not odd but oddly enough an attractive one. Overall I am pleased with my purchase as the mailbox is large, well constructed and attractive.

This is the second Step 2 that I have purchased in 12 years. The intense Florida sun faded the finish and the only reason I bought a new one was to put our best foot forward when selling our home. The new Step 2 was easily installed over the existing 4X4 that I used for the first Step 2 over 12 years ago.Its a fine product made by a company that has a great customer service department. They sent me replacement numbers at no cost after the intense sun dried the adhesive.

This review is written for people who have mailboxes on a state road with winter plows constantly knocking them down. This is the only mailbox that’s practical. I’ve learned not to nail the top piece into the post so when the plow drives into it as they always do the toppiece usually flies off but I can later pick up the pieces and reasseble. The doors, back paper flap all come apart but don’t break. This mailbox is my fourth replacement and my only disappointment is that the post is open so it has to be nailed. My former Step2 mailboxes were a complete sleeve that just slid over the post. And, the companies installation picture shows two people attaching the pieces—that’s correct. It’s a bit more difficult to put togethers solo. But in the end, it’s a great mailbox —that the state snowplowers keep the company in business.

Nice mailbox, poor engineering. Mailbox does not come with installation (post) instructions. Virtually all other similar mailboxes mount on a standard 4x4 post (actual dimension 3 1/2 X 3 1/2). So that is what I bought and set in the ground. When I installed the mailbox, the post fits into the recess designed for it but protrudes approximately 1/2 (recessed area too shallow to entirely enclose the post). When you fasten the included cover piece it does not enclose the post and looks terrible. All other aspects of the mailbox is nicely done so was totally disappointed with the installed look. I had to bevel the top of the post make it look somewhat complete and will have to purchase and paint the exposed post to try and blend it with the enclosure for aesthetics (see pics included). I would recommend a different manufacturer as there seem to be many to choose from.

Rubbermaid mailboxes are the only brand that I will use. You cant beat the high quality and the great price. all of my neighbors have Rubbermaid mailboxes.
