So far it managed to block light from a lightbulb so the sun should be as easily blocked as well. Very sturdy and easy to hold. Retracting is very easy as well compare to low branded umbrellas that sometimes dont feel like retracting to be stored away.

Use umbrella for rain. The wind was blowing and my umbrella turn inside out. Suppose to withstand wind.

Edit to original review. A heavy wind bent the umbrella backwards, piercing the fabric, causing a leak.

This doesnt live up to previous Totes umbrellas I have had. There are tiny holes all along the seams and fabric. And despite being so bulky, it seems quite flimsy. I am returning it. For this price, find something else.

I was a huge fan of totes umbrellas for well over 30 years. I would go to the outlets and buy a few annually. They would last easily 6 years and I even have one thats 15 years old in perfect condition. They used to be really well built with fine materials but not anymore. Based on looks and feel youd think these would last 20 years. It felt really solid at first but eventually fell flat after medium winds and a bit of rain. Things that used to be all metal is now plastic. Cheap aluminum snapping and falling off the rivets with barely a wind pushing. It doesnt even close anymore. I have to pull it hard. Im really saddened by todays totes umbrellas. I would really like to send it in for the warrantee but why would I want another garbage umbrella? Its time to move on and find something better.
