It works just fine. Easy to install - easy to use. I bought it for my office desk lamp and am totally satisfied with its operation. Its just too big - takes up the entire wall socket or 2 sockets on a power strip. I bought it as an experiment to see how IOT works. But in retrospect, I should have bought the mini. No worries - Im happy.

Cant connect. Blames the network, when everything else in my house is connecting just fine. Hours wasted trying to get it to work.

I bought one of these Tapos to control a bedroom light via Amazon Echo (Alexa). It worked for a year and half and then stopped working with Alexa. It continues to work with the Tapo app but using the Tapo app is inconvenient for me. The Tapo app suggested changing the router DNS configuration but I am not willing to do that. So why this stopped working after all this time is a mystery but I have moved on to Leviton Alexa compatible devices. While doing a kitchen remodeling project I needed a Decora style dimmer wall switch which led me to discover Leviton. Leviton also makes Alexa compatible plugs so I consolidated all my devices to Leviton for convenience sake. After 2 months, so far, so good. Another advantage to the Leviton plug is that it only covers one plug of a wall outlet.

2nd Update: We continue to buy these plugs and have had really good luck with them (knock on wood.) The only time anything turned off was because we had overloaded the circuit. I really like that they can be set to go on/off with sunrise/sunset PLUS they have an offset so they can, for example, go on 1/2 an hour before sunset and go off 45 minutes after sunrise. We share the privileges so we can both turn things on or off exclusive of the timer. Update: Bought two more as they work really well as basic timers (fans, nightlights, etc.). I found the app really easy to use. Original review: My bad for not verifying that the little square one wouldnt work with my Kasa app. I cant speak to whether or not the larger, oval one does, but the little square one does not. That said, I eventually downloaded the tapo app and the set up was very quick and easy. Configuring it to go on/off a little after sunrise/sunset, was easy too. Great price for a basic, easy-to-use, no-frills timer.

Got it, scanned the qr code on my Android phone to get the app, then on the outlet to add it to my controls in the app. Plugged it in, and it worked right away. I use it right at the limit of its rating to power an oil filled space heater in my home office. The app lets me start the heater about 30 min before I start my work day. It also tuns it off for me after the day is over. This unit even has a button on the side to run the switch manually. My first smart home gizmo and Im loving it so far.
