Uniden Bearcat 980 40-Channel SSB CB Radio with 7-Color Digital Display

After 3 weeks of use in my Big Truck the display started to fail..eventually lost all the display..not much use for a radio that you cant tell what frequency you are on...so there it sits in the box it came in as a paper weight..enough said.

Radio worked good for little over a year. The volume/power knob would randomly not turn the radio on and now it doesnt work at all. At least I got it on sale, but still kind of crappy that it stopped working right after warranty expired. Radio shop told me repairing it wouldnt be worth it. Feels like a ripoff.

Been into radio for many years. This CB is very impressive. Can be used nicely for mobile or base.

Out of the box, the radio is far too dim in bright light. The radio needed extensive modifications to be useful. I changed the backlight diodes so I could see the darn thing. Dead key RF power was only 3.5 watts, and the VFO was off frequency.. The mod was only 70%. I also unlocked the clarifier so that it works with a 10k swing, in transmit AM and SSB. Now, its a great radio. I use it with a Wilson 1000 mag mount antenna. I have made day and night contacts 100 miles AM day, over 200 LSB night. Basically, out of the box, it is a average mass-produced radio.

I wanted a SSB radio for the new van but didnt want to spend a fortune. This radio fit the bill nicely. I paired it with a K-40 antenna and once I got it matched I started talking. Its not the biggest radio out there but I have made many local contacts and have talked with several on 27.385 lsb

I researched for a week before deciding to buy this one, and it does everything it says it can. After setting the SWR I found some people chatting on channel 38 lower sideband, and asked for a radio check. They told me I was loud and clear, and they were over 20 miles away from my location!! It was even better quality than I thought it was going to be, and I really love that it has 7 colors to choose from. Excellent little radio! Shipping was on time, and the price is right!

Everything that is described is what it is. Im in the construction industry and this CB is a step up from my classic 29ltd, I purchased 2 4ft firestik 2 antennas just to compliment the CB as well as an swr meter to calibrate it, the internal calibrator is pretty accurate as well. Justy simple set up in my 2020 T880 heavy I can reach out about 5 miles EZ . I wish I made this purchase sooner.

Save your money if you want to buy a CB radio and just buy an inexpensive Cobra or Midland. I wish I hadnt thrown away my old really cheap Cobra 19 that was really inexpensive. That cheap radio was ten times a better radio than this Uniden Bearcat 980 SSB. In order to hear any talk on CB with this radio I have to be within 1/4 mile of anyone. I have used it in two vehicles and two different antennas and this radio is about useless. The radio now sits on the rear floor of my car not even hooked up. SSB I have never heard any talk on it. I have to say this radio has got to be the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. If I could sell it for $50 it would be sold.

Screen starts failing almost instantly bought another and same thing 10 minutes later. So disappointed
