> 3 dayVallejo Brown Earth texture paint is easy to recommend. Ive used this for basing miniatures and other effects and its much better value than the tiny Citadel pots. The product is quite versatile and can be painted on thinly, built up in layers or dolloped on thick for a more sculpted effect. Sculpting it will result in a very long drying time, so its best left overnight. Once dry it is literally rock hard, but not brittle and has good adhesion to the plastic models Ive applied it to. The colour is just slightly darker than is apparent from the product picture on the label. The natural earth colour is authentic with some nice variation in texture and you can leave it at that or protect it with a coat of varnish (not that it really needs it). If painting over you can create some nice effects with it, for example a light brushing of this product painted the appropriate colour can look like bubbled rust. Smoothed out and painted grey-black it can look like rough tarmac. Painted with a thin matte white makes it looks like frost covered earth. I dont doubt that there are dozens of other effects you can create with this if you experiment (I discovered the frost effect by accident when I primered it white). It absorbs paint very well, so do your earth texture apart from any other painting you have to do to avoid spoiling the finish. Also scatter, foliage and other bits can be stuck to this while still wet for seamless glue-free natural look. To Sum Up: Quick and easy realistic earth texture that can also be used more creatively too.

> 3 dayIt works like a charm, you can just add it onto a base and after a few minutes your ready to go. I suggest that if you want more textures you can use a thin layer of pva glue (Elmer’s glue) and add sand or tiny rocks before you cover it with the paint.

> 3 dayMy first textured paste purchase that sent me buying 5 others. Its so much easier than grit, works as a nice paste, dries in an hour, isn’t brittle and can be removed with water if needed. A great starting brown to use as a base and dryrush or leave as is. The amount per price is impossible to pass up. Also it only needs a thin coat when applied onto a textured miniature base, more if the surface is smooth.
