> 3 dayBought two of these for a mirrored data partition setup in a server. Within maybe 15 minutes they were running noticeably warm and within an hour they were both running hot enough that it was painful to try to keep your hand up against the side of them for more than maybe 10-15 seconds. Shipped and sold by Amazon btw - just cause others had mentioned issues with drives sold by third party sellers. My only other experience with Western Digital 10TB drives was with an external drive (not sure if it was a red drive inside it but....) that failed a little under a year so Im not optimistic about these but they were what was available when we needed them. 4 stars because even though theyre working now, I think that at some point were going to have to swap these drives out even if they dont fail just because of the fact that the whole rig is running that much hotter because of these little branding irons. Thats going to be a pain and take hours of downtime to transfer the data - all of which I wouldnt have to deal with if these ran cooler like they shouldve out of the box. Not sure if they just arent made to handle RAID 1. Ill update the review when/if something fails. Fingers crossed.

> 3 dayThis is the standard NAS hard drive Ive been using and, so far, is working as advertised. However, out of many WD Red high density drives Ive ordered from Amazon, this is the first one that was not shipped in an individual hard drive cushioned box. This one came with the drive loose in a box with three bottles of fish oil. The drive seems to work so far (after a few hours rebuilding the NAS structure) but it was sliding and bumping loose in the box. I hope no permanent damage occurred.

19-11-2024I purchased 2 of these to use in a mirrored RAID configuration in my NAS drive at home. We mainly use it for media storage though I have backups going there as well. Performance wise they have been solid thus far though they can be a little bit loud when they are getting a lot of use. Overall Ive been super happy with these drives and would not hesitate to go with these again in the future.

> 3 dayOver the past 2 years I have bought 8 of the WD Red Pro and 4 of the WD purple drives off Amazon. Of the 12 in total only one has been DOD. Checking my cameras the one that was dead on delivery was found to have been chucked 10ft across my porch to the door by the Amazon driver. My advice to you, make sure you can be home to greet the driver and you will have some great drives.

> 3 dayI have been trying to replace this device for my NAS the software it comes with was only good to wipe the drive but could never duplicate my Seagate NAS OS as every time I tried duplicating it failed. Finally after I bought a off cloning drive and cloned it boom turned on. I would like to replace this drive with another new one because of times I had to wipe it and replace, during the process the drive got super hot, it had some personal info copied scared to send it back and get a replacement.

18-11-2024The drive is louder than I would like. I tend to have a fan running most of the time, so I dont really notice, but when I dont it makes clickity access sound, nearly constantly. Sometimes it seems to never stop. It is not broken, just on the noisy side. My last internal was not like this, so I am a bit surprised that it sounds a bit...loud.
