First comment: Typical Amazon Quality Service. So far WD4TB Pro bare hard drive is absolutely quiet, vibrationless, super easy to initialize then format to ExFAT and only slightly warm to the touch. Hooked it up with a Unitek IDE/SATA to USB C 3.0 Adapter for now before mounting in stand alone case. Been using WD drives for a number of years so expect this new one will be as durable as the last.

So far works like a dream, I know it was built for businesses but I am using it for large video files, video games, etc. Hasnt failed on me and its been about 2 months since install. Was hoping to transfer my O.S. onto it but I just ended up wiping the original hard drive and then reinstalling all my games on this one.

These are not retail units, the warranty will not apply to these units. Unit its really loud when it spins

I’m using this drive in an enclosure for backups. I chose this instead of a WD Blue or WD External drive because WD Red has better long term reliability. WD Reds are noisier than Blues, so I wouldn’t recommend using them in a room where silence is important. If buying multiple drives, be sure that the drives are from different lots / manufacture dates. That way if there is an unknown manufacturing flaw in one lot, you’re not putting your data on two+ drives of the same lot.

Drives are fine as long as they are consistently running, but they get noisy going from sleep mode and back. I am using in a personal raid 1 archive and they work great, but these drives are made more for a server array.

I purchased a pair of these on Black Friday 2021 well in advance of when I would actually need to use them. They sat on my shelf unopened in their original boxes for over 3 months. When I went to install and use them, one drive was OK. (I have a pair of media servers with 24 large drives in them) The other drive was riddled with errors, would not format and made any machine it was connected to unstable. This is a BRAND NEW DRIVE WITH ZERO HOURS ON IT!!! Because of my own stupidity I did not test them when I got them. Now for that mistake I can only get my new drive replaced with a used refurbished drive. It gets worse. I have had TREMENDOUS trouble getting into my Western Digital account and receiving information from Western Digital. I guess Western Digital is an Indian or Pakistan company. I cannot understand these people. I have spent days and days and more days on the phone just trying to get an RMA. I sent the drive to California where it was received and has sat for 4 weeks. Western Digital does not even show they received my drive yet and that they are still waiting for it. I called them on the phone and they looked it up and promised to update things. Nothing has happened in a further 2 weeks. It is my conclusion that Western Digital warranties are worthless. I wasted $400 on one of drives and the alternative drive company is even worst than this.

I purchased 5 18TB drives and have only received 3 so far. One was a 6TB drive that was mislabeled on the unopened package. I got a replacement and it was the proper size drive, but was DOA. The two drives that have worked are running great. I was able to backup just over 20TB between them and the speeds have been as expected.

We all know that these are slow and loud but man is this one beyond loud. It screeches Every 3 seconds for me which is different than any other one I’ve used in the past. It has a massive storage but if I could return it for another I would.

Its huge and reliable. Plugged into my 120tb array like expected and ran a unRAID preclear like a champ. Now its humming along in my unRAID array

Yes its true, these are loud. All in all they were a good deal though so Im not complaining but the noise is going to drive me insane after a while. May need to relocate the NAS to a closet or something.
