09-06-2025Ive never really used higher quality watercolor before cause $$$$ but I was finally able to purchase these. These are the more student grade type of watercolor from this brand, but since Ive only used cheaper paints from those premade sets these are essentially a godsend. Cheaper paints dont allow you to mix colors and blend as effectively as these do. My only gripe is that the alzarin crimson is weak since its just a hue, and you gotta use a lot of it or mix it with some orange to make it brighter. Id recommend to get a separate tube for that. I purchased these paints and put them inside a medden 12 pan watercolor tin and those two work wonderfully together. So yeah if youve already had experience with a more pricey brand Id stick with that. But if you wanna learn the fundamentals of watercolors or just wanna paint for fun with something other than a Crayola pallette, I highly recommend these.

> 3 dayI used to watercolor when I was in elementary school and Id just started getting back into it; but this is on a WHOLE NEW LEVEL. As a kid I was used to using the rectangular Crayola palettes where you dip your brush into the water and then into a well of solid paint and then onto the paper. But, oh my god wow, the Winsor & Newton Cotman water color tubes are in a completely different league. Both brands (Crayola and Winsor & Newton Cotman) are equally good but are definitely better suited for different age groups. Heres what I liked and didnt like (or I guess the things I needed to get used to) about this product: Likes: -Good value; the tubes are deceivingly small but the amount of paint you use each time is almost microscopic so a little goes a long way -Nice variety of colors -All paints are very highly pigmented -Metal tube prevents air from entering the tube and drying out the paint -Paints can be mixed together to customize new shades -Opacity of color can be adjusted by the amount of water you add Aspects That Definitely Have A Learning Curve To Em: -Amount of paint you need to put down-->I learned this the hard way, DO NOT, do NOT squirt out the same amount as your would acrylic paint, in the tube, the paint is incredibly concentrated and so when you add water to it, if you squirt out a lot of paint, youll end up with a lot of water coloring paint and not know what to do with it -Do I add water to the paint or vice versa? -->Im still not sure which way it goes but I find it easiest to first add the paint to my palette (since essentially Im just dabbing the tip of the tube onto the palette) and then adding in water -Making new colors-->this can be done couple of way. So far Ive found 2. The first way is to dab the colors you want to mix first onto the palette and then add water. The second way, which I found is helpful when you dont want to waste colors that youve already added water to, is to take some of a colored water (i.e. a previous color youve made) and add it to either another colored water or to new dab of paint. (ex. dab of red from tube + blue water = purple water)

> 3 dayIncredibly vibrant water colours, you only need to use a little bit of paint at a time. These 12 paints can be mixed to create seemingly infinite additional colours. My personal favourite? About a 2:1 or 3:1 of viridian and Chinese white, it creates the most beautiful jade green. You can of course add extra water to dilute them but also add water after theyve dried to rewet and reuse. A little of this stuff goes a long way. These tubes may seem tiny, but unless youre an artist/art student, these will probably last you a good long while.

> 3 daythese are student grade paints not professional -- I see a difference in the paint quality -- they are great for students and a better price point than professional paint.

Greater than one weekThe paints are bright and beautiful but the tubes puncture very easily when we try to twist the tiny lids of the tops open. Both the tops/lids and the quality of the tube need to be better. We have them all wrapped in shrink wrap to keep it hen useable.

> 3 daygreat set of basic colors.... everything you need to get started mixing colors and some extras. Would have prefered grey instead of black and white is only a nice to have, but all of that said, this set is a great value.

Greater than one weekI love these paints. Theyre vibrant, easy to work with, blend well and are perfectly happy refilling my cotman travel pallet. Amazing for beginners and students, especially for the price.

> 3 dayThis is a great deal for quality beginner water colors. To buy these all individually, youd be spending nearly 2x as much. They are beginner for someone who is serious about water colors and wants to advance their skill. I highly recommend these to learn with. If you want to go professional, there are professional-grade tubes made by the same company worth spending the money on.
