After hanging really nice, Hunter Douglas motor driven faux wood blinds in the wall of windows in our family room, I discovered that having to remove these extremely heavy blinds periodically to replace the eight AA cells in their battery packs was a royal pain. Three of them are hung about 16 feet off the floor, which made removal without two people and two extension ladders virtually impossible. So what does this have to do with a router bit? Well, I decided it was time to run wires and power these window coverings from a single accessible power supply, and this is the hard-to-find router bit that allowed me to do it! I needed a bit that would cut a 5/32 wide slot in the top piece of the wood casing of each window, and I didnt want it to be more than 3/8 deep. All I needed was to be able to recess a pair of wires into the casing which would be hidden by the header of each of the blinds. Most bits of this type have a small bearing and are a larger diameter cutter, which means a deep slot. Yes I could have fitted something temporarily to run the bearing on, but it was tough enough balancing the router over raised panel trim. In fact, I had another 1/4 shank bit with a top bearing that was a larger diameter, so I put it on this bit and reduced the cutting depth a little more. Aside from being a nice small diameter for shallower cuts, the bit cuts cleanly. From the description image it appeared to have only two cutting surfaces; in fact it has three. So assuming the carbide is decent, it should make nice clean cuts for a while before dulling. For the price, its disposable. If this thing makes the kind of cut you need, buy it.

I got this to cut the groove in my composite decking, and it worked out better than the one that was supposedly for composite decking, and it was a fraction of the cost.

Easy, good, affordable. I needed the bit to extend a hardwood floor by a few inches and had to remove and replace a too-small piece with one slightly larger. I had to cut the existing tongue of the piece I removed; this left its tongue glued inside the receiving groove. The router bit perfectly cleaned the groove of the receiving piece and allowed the installation of the new, slightly larger replacement piece as if it were a new install. Painless. (Took nearly longer to write than do!)

I used the bit to route slots in trex decking for hidden fasteners and it worked perfectly.

I used this to cut slots in Trex decking to accept their hidden fasteners. Worked perfectly and cost a fraction of the price Trex asks for their proprietary version.

Worked perfectly for grooving the “picture frame” Trex composite deck boards. (They are not grooved) Best to set your router depth by using the groove in a factory grooved board. Easy and smooth cutting. Great value considering the much higher price for the Trex brand cutter. Highly recommend!

I would say this is the 2nd most important tool. Any time you rip a board this router bit puts the groove back in the board. If use use square edge boards for a professional look. This bit is needed for the inside to cut a groove. Easy to use router bit. Professional look that maintains the hidden fasteners pattern going.
