Greater than one weekYes, they rust and not necessarily with wear. I placed one in a glass with a small amount of water and by the third day the ball bearing had rusted. Which is very disappointing because I bought 200. I had planned to put them in my acrylic paint and nail polish that I use like paint. I was misled by this answer No, unless getting into contact with corrosive material like salt etc. They are made from stainless steel. By Tom on December 13, 2015
