I looked for an APU once I read an article that this would enable you to squeak by without a discrete GPU. I wanted to build a nice gaming computer for my son, but the prices for discrete GPUs were astronomical, so I put off that build until I came across an article on the web on building gaming rigs with APUs (Accelerated Processing Units - basically a CPU and a GPU on the die). AMD is the leader in this area and I bought the fastest APU they supplied. My son has enjoyed a number of games, including Madden 2022. Its not a good as a unit with a discrete GPU (my other sons build has a Radeon RX580 GTS discrete graphics card), which has awesome graphics; but, its quite good given theres no discrete gaming card. When the GPU prices come down in another year or so, I might upgrade.

Best cpu for a budget build with the opportunity to upgrade later on.

Got it on sales: it’s got solid performance, is 8 core and has the same spec than it’s more expensive counterpart in all but a few points. Even, it can be overclock to match the more expensive one in htz, the only real difference is the memory (16mb this one and 32mb for the gaming one. But to be fair, as of now the cpu has never been the source of any kind of bottleneck during gaming, it was always the temporary gpu that we use that did it).

If you want a great CPU but cant stomach paying 2-3x for a GPU this will get the ball rolling. Absurdly quick for general use and good enough for 1080 gaming at low/mid without issue. All for an absurdly low 65W. Thing doesnt even stress the box cooler and wont turn a case into an oven.

It works well enough for my purposes - I save most of my triple-A titles for my xbox, but thisll do for PC gaming now until a decent graphics card comes down from their insane prices and lack of availability.

For gamers, creators, and all-around PC users who want enthusiast-class performance without the need for a discrete graphics card – look no further than Ryzen™ 5000 G-Series Desktop Processors – The Ultimate Desktop Processor with Graphics.
