Benchmark Abrasives 5 Aluminum Oxide Quality Thin Cut Off Wheel for Metal and Stainless Steel 0.045 Thick 7/8 Arbor, Angle Grinder Wheel, Fast Burr-Free Cutting Wheel - 50 Pack

For 50 of these 5 metal cutoff wheels at my local hardware store, Id be paying nearly $250! Im not sure how these are so inexpensive, but I just received them and the quality appears to be identical to the ones I normally buy. I will update my review after some actual use in the field, but I have no reason to expect them to perform any differently than the ones Ive been using. As typical with every brand of cutoff wheel Ive used in the past, the actual thickness is greater than advertised, but not too far off. These are advertised as 0.045 and the actual thickness is 0.0560 (1.42mm)--see my photos. The other brand I was using before this that also advertised 0.045 but measured over 0.060. EDIT: After using these in the field now, Ive had absolutely no issues. They work just as well as the ones I was paying much more for.

Last a long time for a cutting wheel

Youll go through these faster than other brands however they are durable meaning I havent had one explode even after binding(Watch the chattering itll literally eat the wheel up. Common with most thin cut-off wheels) and for the cost you cant go wrong. For example Ive cut 6X6X3/16 box steel which the wheels will cut off about 1 1/2 pieces before replacing. There are other wheels thatll make almost 3 cuts but are 4 times as expensive.

I purchased these to disassemble pallets made from steel rectangular tubing by cutting them apart through the welds. Ive been using several other brands of 4 1/2 cutting discs, and have run into short life, slow cutting, and even exploding failures. Not fun. I tried these Benchmark Abrasives cutoff wheels based on the reviews here on Amazon, and have found them to be the best Ive found. The extra half inch in diameter not only helps them last longer, theyll cut deeper when theyre fresh, and at a more shallow angle, both of which are a big help in my application. The thinness and aggressiveness of the abrasive help them cut fast with lighter pressure, which also helps them last. Theyre especially good when used with battery powered tools because they help the batteries last longer. And when I screw up and pinch one, it hangs together and doesnt explode, making them safer to use. Im on my second pack of 50, and that wont be my last.

By far one of the toughest blades on the market. Ive tryed blades from the big box stores and they do not last as long as these. The life,sharpness could not ask for better.

Ive used wheels that cut a little faster and a little cleaner but these make a perfectly acceptable cut, the wheels last longer and cost less. I will purchase these again.

They last long , cut well, they dont break or chip or flake comes out to about 0.78 cents a blade. Not too bad.
