> 3 dayGreat looking projector Im in the process of building a home theater. This will be the first one Ive put together and I agonized over which projector I was going to buy for a long time. Lamp or laser? Did I need 4k? What about HDR? Was LG a better choice or Optoma? Eventually, I read a very detailed review of the upcoming BenQ HT3550 that made it sound really great. It had the specs I wanted and it was right in my price range, so I made the leap and ordered one. It took about 3 weeks to arrive but I finally got it on Friday. I got it set up fired it up to make sure it works. Everything works great, setup was very easy, and it looks absolutely stunning. The picture is really extraordinary and the colors are fantastic. Its very quiet. And since I didnt have my surround sound system fully set up, I just used the internal speakers and those even sound pretty decent. All in all, this is a fantastic value for the money and I highly recommend it.

> 3 dayI’ve had this projector for a few months, and when playing HDR content HDR will frequently be split screen right down the center. Basically one side will be HDR and the other side will not. I have to stop the content and restart it in order for it to work correctly. There is a loud click as the HDR turns itself off and another as it turns on again. It is connected to a Sony receiver and an Nvidia Shield, but also happens when playing HDR content on PS4. Ive emailed support lets see what they say. Update: BenQ replaced with an RMA, but now the replacement is showing the same signs, and last night one of the HDMI ports stopped working. Update 2: I got a hold of support and they sent me another one. Heres hoping this is the last one. At this point I cant recommended this model and BenQ is super hard to get a hold of.

> 3 dayI couldn’t wait for this baby to arrive from the Amazon Warehouse. It came a day early to my jubilee, and was nicely packaged in its original box. I was upgrading from my trusty old Viewsonic projector for outdoor movie night. There are a ton of reviews with specs and such, so I’ll just give you a layman’s version. The picture was simply astounding; both animation (Raya) and live movies. Granted, I’m coming from a 1080i, but the clarity of the image on my 4K JWSIT big screen (135’), blew me away. It exceeded my expectations. I drooled for the first three hours of viewing. The setup was easy, as well as slight adjustments to my viewing liking. The fan was never even noticeable. And the speakers were pleasantly adequate. My last projector sounded strained as I elevated the volume, but the ht3550 gave off an enjoyable, full sounding soundtrack. No sound glare as I increased the volume. I set this up with my son’s ps5 to take advantage of the 4K blu ray. Like watching movies outside for the first time. This is what I’ve been missing? I’d probably be crying if I wasn’t so elated by the upgrade. Gaming was just as amazing to watch. I noticed no lag, but we only played one person play. He did hop on fortnite with a couple of friends for an hour or so, but he had no issues that I could see. The ht3550 is truly a topnotch projector. I look forward to making it my own!

Greater than one weekMy friend and I have an expression when we see or hear something spectacular. Its, Hold it, Hold it, Hold it! Folks, this is about one of the best kept secrets in home theater or home entertainment! I dont think there are any words in the dictionary to express the picture quality and price of this unit! People, tbe Benq ht3550 is a True 4K unit. It does not Pixel Shift like other projectors are built to do to trick the eyes for 4k imaging. Benq calibrates this unit at the factory, colors and all to ISF (Imaging and Science Foundation) and cinematic standards the way the producers meant them to be seen. This unit ROCKS! and even has a longer lasting bulb than other units. It is about 1.30% larger in size of the Benq w1070. What sold me on the unit was the purchase of the Benq ht8050 I installed in my parents home in Colorado. We were watching the 4K version of The Lion King in a 120 screen and I fell out of my chair when I saw the immense clarity of the ht8050 that does not even have Dynamic Range. Its a huge unit and required blocking between the rafters to center it. The ht3550 I have is light in comparison and has Dynamic Range! Excellant, excellent unit and I highly recommend that people purchase this unit!!

> 3 dayIm very pleased. I watched a few video reviews before purchasing this projector and I like it even better than the reviewers did. To my eyes the lamp brightness is more than adequate for a dark room even when using the wide color gamut. If youre a gamer, the input lag is only going to be a problem if youre playing competitive multiplayer or if you play a lot of twitchy reflex games where every millisecond counts. I was playing GTA5 (by myself) last night and I didnt notice the lag while playing. 4k hdr movies with wide color gamut turned on are beautiful, I watched The Revenant recently and all those outdoor scenes really popped.

> 3 dayIf you are looking for a 4K projector but dont want to pay a ton this is the one for you. Great picture! It is above our heads- it is a bit noisy but nothing that is a game changer- It gets really hot too. Other than those two things great projector for the money.

16-11-2024Disclaimer: This is my first projector but I am very impressed overall. I was at one time planning on shelling out close to 3k for the Epsom 5050 (which does look amazing) but then I realized I had planned my home theater room without a huge throw distance from projector to screen (just under 9 feet) and I was hoping to use a 110 screen. My fears that the Epsom might not quite have the throw ratio I needed led me to look at this BenQ and Im glad I did. This BenQ isnt what they call a short throw projector but it does have a more generous throw ratio than most other regular home cinema projectors. Im pleased to say that the picture is stunning and the price saving enabled me to invest in a better amp and speakers for the room. I bought a Panasonic 4K Blu-ray player (UB 420) and it looks stunning in both 4k and 3D. It will make you want to stock up on 3D movies. I have a dark dedicated home theater in a basement and I can imagine this could struggle in a room with natural light. They also say this isnt a great projector for gaming but I have hooked up my PS4 to it and had a great experience. To be fair, Im not an online gamer where I suppose the input lag could be detrimental. However, for local gaming (1 player campaign/story or multiplayer split-screen) I dont notice any lag at all, just a big beautiful image. It has a very nice backlit remote too. I have had a few moments where I have had some glitches from the 4K Blu Ray signal and had to restart the projector but that has been my only negative. This issue might be unique to my individual unit though. Overall, I love it and I know you will too if you have a dark room, especially for the price. Update: I have since had several problems, first with my original unit and then with a replacement. Now Benq arent answering support calls or responding to emails. I know we are in the midst of a pandemic but this still isnt good enough for such a big company. Ive lost all faith in the brand. Stay away!
