This projector was a direct upgrade from an HT2050A and is my first 4K unit. I have to say, the sharpness of the image and richness of color continue to blow me away in the past few days Ive had it installed. The improved contrast due to the inclusion of a dynamic iris is an added bonus as well! My Home Theater is fairly small, being 11x13ft in size, so my front row is close to my screen. This was manageable with the 2050A as long as you didnt learn forward, but literally standing a foot from my screen I can hardly make out individual pixels. I skipped the 2550 last year because it seemed like it had a little too much baggage. But just like other reviewers have stated, I think BenQ nailed it with this projectors performance at this price point and many will make the jump over to 4K. Amazon for its part seemed completely aloof as to the stock situation with the HT3550, so fortunately I was able to acquire one elsewhere and couldnt be happier!

This projector worked well in the small space I had and is bright given the fairly dark room. I think even in a bright room the picture would be fine. I updated the firmware and changed the settings to enable hdmi 1 to ARC from my sound bar. Excellent picture quality in 4K!

I am a first time projector owner...all I can say is that I am amazed at how far along projectors have come. I’ll not a videophile but I know the different between 1080p and 4K and know enough about black levels and things like that to know when a picture is good and this unit has it all. My only complaint which is not really a defect is that I wish it was a little brighter. Again it’s not really an issue with the projector and they do offer another model that’s made for brighter rooms but I wanted this model since their higher lumen version will not match the color depth of this one. Overall i didn’t know what to expect when I got this but I love it. I have also tried the 3d but it’s just way too dark for my taste but my wife didn’t seem to care. Just my preference I guess. I may try using the BenQ glasses instead of the cheaper ones I bought on amazon to see if that helps but overall I wasn’t pleased. The images were very dark with a lot of ghosting in some scenes. Overall I highly recommend this projector for the price...you won’t be disappointed.

Well Ive had this for 2 or 3 weeks now. I been messing around with it on a 100 matte white 1.0 gain screen, 120 on a beige wall, 92 on .9 ALR screen. Image out of the box is amazing 4k HDR with disc or 4k scream from Apple TV 4k. Coming from 1080p projector definitely can go back. And having a 55 LG OLED in my living room spoiled watching movies, but lacks immersive size and my full Dolby Atmos setup. So this definitely the next step, with the BenQ HT3550 I still get my 1080p Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray and now 4k Blu-ray with HDR, while keep my DOLBY Atmos, DTSX, AURO 3D and now Imax Enhanced Audio setup. With a nice 1.13 throw allows me to go bigger screen and use and acoustic transparent screen now with out compromising my speaker placement now.

I was looking for a 4K upgrade for my Benq W1080ST projector. I really need a short throw projector, and this is not it. In fact Benq has apparently decided to abandon customers who need short throw capabilities due to room constraints or other issues. None of the new 4k models offer short throw. This is a questionable business decision.

I just received this projector yesterday and am incredibly disappointed in the whole user experience as well as all the bugs. For a $1500 projector I expected something way more functional than the Epson my housemates bought for $800. Something seems to be wrong with the HDR mode as sometimes the entire image looks like it has a green overlay on it (EDIT: I fixed this with a software update). Additionally, when HDR mode is on something inside the projector makes a horrible grinding/buzzing sound, like old computer sounds from 15 years ago. The green overlay isn’t always there and the buzzing sound isn’t as well, so there has to be some issue with it. Edit: here is a link to a video of the sound coming from the projector. https://youtu.be/LHJC_qN9Ils Does not play sound from my Sony Blu-Ray player for some reason even though my housemates projector has no problem. Input switching is incredibly slow as are changing some other settings. Sometimes I’ll switch back to my AppleTV 4K and the projector won’t even recognize the input, so I have to restart the projector (which takes five minutes) just to get the AppleTV to show up. I reached out to BenQ yesterday and am waiting to hear back so I can update this review. But if you’re stuck at home right now and are looking for a projector, don’t get this one because it’s not worth the hassle, even without the bugs it’s still a pain in the butt. EDIT: it has been almost a week and I have received no response from BenQ. The image quality is nice, but the whole experience so far has been way too frustrating for something I was so excited to get. Now I feel like a sucker for spending this much money on something that should have been way better. Why does it say “stream Netflix and Prime”? There is no smart TV interface, it’s just saying you can plug in a streaming device through the input. So with that statement it’s clear every statement they make about this projector is just meaningless marketing hype. I expected so much better from BenQ.

I absolutely loved this projector when it was new. It was an upgrade from the BenQ W1070. The picture quality was top notch, bright, and crisp. The installation was simple as it worked great with the ceiling mount I already had installed. I removed the W1070 and slipped the HT3550 right into place. The love affair is quickly coming to an end though as the pixels are dropping like flies. It started with one off to the side and I was okay with that. Then a second died, then a third, forth.... Its up to six now and its becoming unbearable especially when its a really dark scene in whatever Im watching. For the price of this item, I would expect it to last a longer than it has.

I love this projector, for the cost, what you get, its great. But also with the price point, you get absolute trash customer support and warranty through benq. I have sent this projector to them multiple times for random things. Had a Fan die, when it came back, the color wheel was having issues, when it came back the next time, I noticed there was a screw and broken pieces of plastic rolling around inside the projector, they had also broken one of the main case supports. So, I sent it back again....the next time I got it back, all seemed ok....until today....my lamp is at 973 hours....the first one lasted me 5700....and now my lamp is flickering and dying....Humm. so, I opened it up because I have a spare lamp, and I find out that some idiot has replaced my lamp mounting screws with some kind of standard computer fan screws! They drilled out the holes on the lamp but didnt bother drilling out the mounting holes on the projector itself! So every single new lamp I get, I have to modify to make it work! It doesnt even mount up properly, i have no idea how they have got away with this kind of customer support for so long but wow. I am floored. Worst support i have ever experienced in my life. As of now, I have sent them another less than pleasing email expressing my disdain and asking for my original mounting screws back.

Weve had this projector for about 4 months now and have to say - its fantastic. Im sure you could spend more money and get a better picture, more features, etc, but for the price, I think this is the best you can get. We have a room that is a light beige color and windows on the back wall - if we wanted to watch this during the day without shades on the windows, the image would be a little dim. That said, any other time, the image is incredibly sharp and the HDR makes everything look great. Weve got it at about 135 and it looks amazing - highly recommended!
