Greater than one weekOrdered a used Dell U2412 monitor from Discount-Computer and Im impressed. The packaging was top notch. The monitor was surrounded by plastic air bags sealed in a box and then within another box. It even arrived a little ahead of schedule. Ordered a grade B monitor. I was a little hesitant at first but figured Id take a chance. Im not disappointed. I was so happy with the purchase that I ordered a second one from the same vendor. No noticable imperfections when the screen is on. I use it for my home office PC. Imho the 16:10 aspect ratio should be the standard for all monitors.

> 3 dayFirst, let me say I really like my Dell U2412m monitor. Ive had it about a month and have thoroughly enjoyed using it everyday, and for the price point, this is a wonderful monitor with an excellent feature set. However, its not perfect. The first one I received had severe clouding in the right top and bottom corners. Of course, these come setup with the brightness at an eye searing 75%, and the clouding diminished a bit when I turned it down to a more reasonable 30%, but it was still quite evident on a dark image, and not acceptable for my main purpose of photo editing, so back it went (thanks Amazon for the easy no hassle exchange!). The second one also has a tiny bit of clouding in the corners, but only when viewed really close-up, and mostly not visible at all except on a completely dark screen. So, not perfect, but acceptable. I really like the 16x10 ratio, its a nice big workspace. The build quality seems up to Dells high standards, and I love the stand, with its easy and yet very secure adjustments. I will say that the color on my second monitor leaned toward the green, cyanish side (yuck). Unfortunately, the color controls in the main menu are not fine enough for the kind of color adjustments that were needed, but luckily for me, I found some sites on the internet that described how to carefully access the service menu, and I was able to tweak the color to perfection using some very good LCD monitor test images I found using Google. So, lets wrap it up: Pros: 1. Good build quality 2. Excellent color and picture (when tweaked correctly) 3. Easy and stable stand adjustments. 4. Works beautifully with both my new Mac Mini AND my 10 year old Mac G4 (using a USB switch) 5. Lots of inputs and USB connections 6. 3 Year warranty Cons: 1. A bit of clouding in the corners, but generally not visible during normal use. 2. Only USB 2.0 3. No HDMI input So, would I recommend this? Yes, but with qualifications. Be sure and check your screen for unacceptable clouding, and be prepared to tweak the brightness, contrast, and color. If you can live without HDMI and USB 3.0 ports, than this monitor should be on your short list. UPDATE (March 4, 2013): I really like this monitor. It has performed flawlessly over the last 5 months. The bit of clouding in the corners doesnt seem to show up in real world use. No color drift and no problems whatsoever. I leave it on 24 hours a day and it automatically goes into power-saving mode whenever I put the computer to sleep. For the price, this is quite a nice monitor. Update (Sept 5, 2013): The thing I like most about this monitor, it just works. I know that sounds simple, but in this complex world of cables, and operating systems, and weird stuff, its nice to have something that I can just plug in and it works perfectly, all day, every day. The color has been SUPER stable, with no drift. The slight clouding in the corners hasnt gotten worse, and doesnt effect my day to day photo work. All-in-all, an excellent and reliable monitor.

> 3 dayLOVE LOVE LOVE this monitor. I was stupid before this and bought a cheap monitor. It hurt my eyes. I have an HP Pavilition with an excellent monitor, but this year, bought a Microsoft Surface, which also has an excellent monitor, just too small for my puny eyes. I bought a cheap large monitor and it was almost worse than the tiny screen. Finally ponied up for this monitor and its AWESOME Not only is it great quality and crisp clear text (I do mostly reading, writing, database work and programming) but its SOOOO adjustable and I didnt realize how cool that would be. This monitor SLIDES up down AND TILTS forward back AND ROTATES left right, great for when moving around in my chair. I do wish the base would move towards and back from me a little easier - it has a SOLID dependable base, but I do tend to drag it towards and away from me. Maybe Ill put a piece of felt or something to let it slide easier. This monitor can also go vertical which is very cool, but I find a little disconcerting just on orientation. If I were doing mostly writing, say like a lawyer, the vertical (portrait) mode might be how I keep it all the time, or if I had a second jack for a monitor, I might get another one of these - one for my desktop in horizontal mode and one for my writing in vertical mode. All in all, I have NOTHING Bad to say about this monitor. Oh, some people have commented that it doesnt have speakers and thats true. While that would be nice, it doesnt really take away from it and I think you can buy a speaker bar to attach, but dont quote me on that. Overall, this monitor has a high quality feel to it, sharp performance and flexible. LOVE IT!

> 3 dayOne of the best purchases I have ever made. As a software engineer and photography enthusiast who works with computers most of the time when not sleeping, I have high standards for monitors and have played with a lot of them. I can say that this one is the best value for the money. The color is pretty accurate (not as accurate as those super expensive monitors that cost $1000+ though), and the uniformity of the display is superb. Dont get tricked by those fancy looks and functions of some cheap monitor (not so cheap though, still cost $100+)--those functionalities have nothing to do with the display quality. This display is so good that I immediately bought another one for my GF after getting my hands on this one. You could easily find that the color in those display you used before (TVs, cheaper monitors) are far more inferior and you immediately enter a new world with vivid color. This monitor is great for programming and photo editing for enthusiasts (pros may choose those expensive ones), and other uses that you could imagine. The 16:10 ratio is also optimal for working, and I never had any problems with movies even though for 16:9 movies you cannot get a full coverage. Actually I found the bottom black gap is perfect for subtitles. If youre looking for a 24-inch monitor, buy this one as fast as you can. You may also want to consider the 27-inch version if youre looking for a larger monitor.

Greater than one weekWhen I first turned this monitor on I was disappointed in its performance. The colors were rather dull. It needs to be adjusted correctly. I first used Liquid Color which made things better. Then I made manual adjustments based on my subjective preferences. These adjustments were made to Game Mode. Here are the settings I like: Brightness 76 Contrast 76 Hue 50 Saturation 70 Sharpness 50 Dynamic cont. On Using these, the display looks beautiful. I liked it so much, I bought another one of these monitors and I now have a dual monitor setup. For this I bought the Planar 997-5253-00 Dual Monitor Stand which works very well and is of high quality. I use dual displays on the Game setting mostly for Flight Simulator X, which looks great. (For routine everyday use I shut one of the monitors off and set the other to Standard.) So I suspect that some of the ho-hum reviews are based on sub-optimal adjustments. Admittedly, adjusting it is somewhat of a hassle, and my settings are subjective, but if one is willing to do some tweaking youll get a nice looking display. You also get 1920 x 1200 resolution which is becoming less common for some reason, but it is what I prefer.

Greater than one weekThis Dell monitor was purchased for a 13 macbook pro retina late 2013 (latest model as of this date) set-up. The retina screen on macbook pro is sharp, clear and easy to read. I wanted to an external monitor that was visually exciting like the thunderbolt apple display. However, I believe that the thunderbolt apple display is due for updating soon (hopefully thinner, lighter, with thunderbolt 2.0 connectivity and with USB 3.0 integrated) and did not want to purchase the current model at a whopping $999. This Dell U2412M seemed a reasonable compromise albeit smaller screen, but at much more reasonable price point. This Dell monitor was shipped very quickly from Amazon, and packaged sturdily. The set-up of the Dell monitor out of the box was easy. This display connects to the macbook pro with an mini-display port to DVI adapter (purchased separately) and by using the DVI cable supplied from Dell. I decided to just get a mini-display port to display port cable from Amazon instead. This cable cannot be found ANYWHERE in the local stores and only from Amazon. So please be aware to purchase the cable with the Dell monitor. As Im sure everyone knows--this Dell monitor does not have a HDMI connection. This monitor does not have speakers either. So what do I think of the display? I admit my initial reaction was disappointment. Only because I compared it to my macbook pro retina screen or an apple thunderbolt display at the store. In my opinion, the apple displays are superior. There is no comparison. Dont get me wrong--the Dell visual display is beautiful, but I have been spoiled by the apple displays. I am now more sensitive to noticing the pixels on the Dell. I placed the display on its maximum resolution too at 1920 X 1200. The Dell display is matte and not glossy, which is fine. I believe that if one looks at the Dell screen for a long time, it will tire the eyes. The glare can be quite prominent even at brightness down to 27%. I could not find a Dell U2412M at a local store for me to gauge first and I bought this monitor based on reviews. For what it is worth, this monitor is more than decent and will work for me now. The price point is most excellent for the quality. However, I need to read and write constantly for work. Hence, in service of minimizing eye strain, I may take the leap to the new thunderbolt display when apple upgrades that monitor.

> 3 dayFirst off, this monitor is great and it really should deserve 5 stars. It is not a true professional monitor in terms of color reproduction and accuracy. But for anyone looking for a more premium monitor that is 16:10 aspect not 16:9 then this is a great choice. I have 3 of them running in Eyefinity mode and it looks great for movies and games. Now the reason why it received a 1 star is because of Amazons service, particularly Amazon Primes service. I ordered this monitor on Dec. 2nd at 1pm PST. During check out, Amazon prompted me to try Amazon Prime for 1 month for free. I thought this would be a good idea since I do purchase items often on amazon, and if it turned out to be good I wouldnt mind paying the fee to continue. I mean hey, 2day shipping sounds pretty awesome. So I went ahead and did the free trial and checked out; I received an email saying confirming transaction and packaging item. Wow that was fast! At night time it said shipped and arrives Dec. 4th i.e 2 day shipping. I get my tracking number soon later which also prompts the same thing arrives Dec. 4th by 8pm. Dec. 4th comes and I wait all day, but nothing. I check the tracking, it says Arrive in Anaheim, CA at 4:21am Dec4th which is roughly 5miles from where I live. I thought weird, but sometimes shipping has problems so I get a little annoyed because its suppose to be 2day shipping but Im not mad. Dec. 5th comes; I wait all day again. This time it says out for delivery at 7:02am Dec. 5th all day on the tracking. I wait until 8pm, nothing. So at 9pm I decide to contact amazon customer service via CHAT. I get to the person (Monique) and explain my situation and frustration. She gives me a bunch of run-around answers about how it got lost in the the tracking system and that the tracking isnt accurate sometimes. So I say it said out on delivery from Anaheim. does that mean its not REALLY out on delivery and its just sitting somewhere at a warehouse?? and her response was your item is our for delivery, it is in transit and then they left the chat. Just like that, no bye , just left my chat. So Im pretty mad and disappoint now and I try to get another customer service chat person. This time Ingrid A. helps me and I explain to her about my item and how the other customer service rep just left me hanging. This time around, Ingrid was actually very polite and tried to help me. She said that after looking at the tracking service it looks that my item will arrive on Dec. 6th. And that she is very sorry for this problem and is willing to offer me an extended month of Amazon Prime. I reply this is my first order with Prime and it already has this complication, why would I want to use Prime again? Then she says I understand your frustration, so what would you like me to do in order to solve this problem? I answer well, what I would like is for my item to arrive on time like it was promised, but I realize that isnt possible now. So if this was a retail store or a department store, then some kind of discount would be fitting, is that right? She says let me see what I can do. After some minutes she comes back and says I can offer you a $15 credit to your account. I said I was not satisfy with that to be honest. I even ask her if she would be satisfy. She said thats the only thing she can do for me or extend the Prime account. Wow, $15 credit or a month of prime after that fiasco? Might as well spit in my face then. I say this, isnt Amazon Prime suppose to be a premier service? $79 a month isnt cheap. Arent they trying to set themselves apart with Prime? And when something like this happens this is how they handle it? How are either of those fitting compensations to ANY costumer that wants to use their Prime service? Is this how Amazon mottos their business and customer service satisfaction? Its disappointing to see how Amazon sees its loyal customers. I end by saying, I have 3 of these monitors, the first 2 I bought directly from Dell and they did not disappoint in service. This 3rd one I bought here, but I wish I would have save myself the hassle and bought from them as well. Thanks but no thanks for $15. Really Amazon?

> 3 dayThe Dell Ultrasharp series are my favorite monitors. I currently own 4 Dell UltraSharps. Most / all are typically IPS based (in plane switching) and offer the best viewing angles and clarity. The U2412M is currently my primary monitor. I own one that I purchased about 3 years ago directly from Dell. I decided to replace my secondary monitor (which is a Dell U2311H) with another U2412M which I purchased from Amazon. Out of the box the monitor looked great. The antiglare coating on this latest revision is not as aggressive as the older version I currently own. Colors and text look more vibrant and clearer. The one problem I had (which is mentioned quite often in the reviews here) is a slight yellow cast on the whites. I purchased a hardware calibration tool (ColorMunki Display) specifically to calibrate the new monitor. Even after calibration, I could not get rid of the yellow cast. Unfortunately that meant sending it back. I wished it didnt have that problem since I really like the new revision (mainly due to the lighter antiglare coating). I will be on the lookout for a good price on the newer U2415 model.

> 3 dayWhere I got this monitor: Amazon Is this my first U2412m: Yes Date of manufacture: June 2014 Revision code: A01 Yellow Tint: I guess? has a yellowish color compare to my primary screen (which is a 13 MacBook Pro non-retina version) I tried varying the color temperature and it is still yellower than my Apple screen. That said, its on an acceptable level. As a side: When I first bought this macbook, I actually experienced the same problem with the new laptop and my Apple monitor, and I got a replacement from Apple but they said it wasnt a fault, its a difference between what manufacturer produces the monitor (I think its LG VS Samsung). So I am happy with my whiter laptop and this monitor is great for me. UPDATE: I just figured the yellow tint was due to the software f.lux I have on my laptop that changes the color temperature according to the time in a day. After I quit the program, yellowish screen is gone. I guess all I can say about that is the Dell monitor displays more reaction to the color temperature than my Apple laptop. I saw a lot of reviews on Amazon discussing the revision and so on. I was extremely stressed out about that, and decided to give Amazon a try since I really needed another monitor that can be in a pivot position. When it got here, on the side of the Dell box, it stated the revision code and the manufacturer data, I guess I was happy with what I got. The stand that came with it is amazing, it can do all kinds of rotation angle and it makes my work station more ergonomic than other monitors (+ normal stand) could have. Just order it and voila, no need to get a separate stand, nor measuring the eye level and pile books underneath it. It just magically works. Seriously, I love it. I searched for some high resolution wallpaper that could fit with this 1200 X 1980, and it makes the monitor ever prettier. The only down side is: I wish they could implement some kind of software that you can adjust the brightness from the keyboard and some sort of shortcut to rotate my screen.
