monitor goes to sleep before the installer CD can do anything usefull setup instructions are uselss for installing any software or doing setup - all it says is to how to assemble it so much for DELL!! Dell tech support was in India I think - its Albion - they were clueless this is the only monitor I have ever had problems with I have a new ASUS Essentio Windows 8 Pc always in the past a video card would treat a new monitor ok - at least working in basic mode - not this time after much computer voodoo and plugging and unplugging and trying ito other pcs and rebooting it finally worked - I have no idea what did the trick due to this frustration it only gets 4 stars today the monitor itself seems ok now that its responding to the PC. 24 is a good size for sorting photos and doing simple editing. on a side note - I am quite pleased at the font sizes with this monitor and Windows 8. A pleasant surprise for my old eyes.

So after weeks of watching, I went ahead and bought two of these monitors for 265 when a resaler (Triplenet pricing) was having a sale. First impressions were good, the monitors had a simplistic, utilitarian design I especially liked and the stands seemed solid (Im using a monitor stand so I cant comment on those). Upon installation I was blown away by the display quality and viewing angles. The rumors are really true about these monitors; even though its only a 78% gamut display, you wont know the difference unless you are a professional who relies on color accuracy. The display will blow you away if you are coming from a TN panel. I spent the afternoon looking at photos, admiring the quality of the color reproduction. Its actually much similar to getting a new pair of glasses. Also Id like to add that the input lag is minimal and I was able to play FPS games with no ill effect. However, a month into the purchase I noticed a small plastic plate in the rear had popped out. I had to use a knife to lift the plastic to pop it back in. It hasnt set properly and still pops out slightly. Now, I dont know if this was a defect or a shipping problem, but it is an issue that I believe has to do with the cheap plastic construction used on the monitor. On a related note, the (Amazing) panel feels cheaply constructed on a physical level. When you push in the panel, it has way too much play, going a few millimeters past its point. Now I know these seem like trivial, superficial problems, but I expected much more from such a highly regarded monitor that costs about $280 average (at the time). Overall, Im happy with the monitor, but just beware of what it really is before you dive in. An entry-level monitor with cheap materials with a great display. The construction is really just a minor gripe, and monitor does its job well, so Im giving this 4 stars. Pros: Great colors and viewing angle (The 178 degree viewing angle makes portrait orientation a possibility) Intuitive menu makes for easy, quick adjustments USB hub is very useful Comes with most cables, but not DisplayPort Clean, modern design Cons: Flimsy construction, a lot of play in the display Cheap materials used Anti glare causes some discoloration at certain angles (very, very minimal) EDIT: Just noticed the damaged/defected monitor also has a yellowish tint compared to the other one. I never really noticed until now, dropping a star for that. For me, the color wasnt such a big issue, but for many others, it might be huge. Again, take this monitor for what it is: an upgrade for the average consumer, not for professional creatives who rely on color accuracy. Update from 9/13/2014: Got a chance to use the stand, and I can certainly say that this monitor is rugged where it matters, although there is some shaking if you are typing really hard. But, for 99% of the time, you wont even notice it. Aside from the stand, everything is working as it should, and Ive had no problems except for this tiny bright dot that only shows when there is a white background. Not a huge issue but its there... so I stand by my original rating of 3 stars. The value is there, but Dells QA could use some work.

Amazing monitor! It came down to this or an Asus 144hz gaming monitor, and i chose this because I wanted the superior picture quality. Im glad I did. Out of the box, uncalibrated, its a sight to behold coming from an old TN panel. I calibrated it based on some recommendations from tech sites more knowledgable than me and its even more breathtaking. I was worried about ghosting but havent noticed any at all playing TF2 and CS:GO. Diablo 3 looks so vibrant, its crazy. Purchased mid-late November 2013 and I got the A00 model for those who are wondering. The stand rocks (smooth articulation but very sturdy) and the monitor feels huge infront of you (1920x1200 makes a big difference). For the price, i dont think you can go wrong. No dead or stuck pixels. Everything is gravy. Id love to have atleast 1 or 2 more. The only negative think I can say about the entire experience was the packaging. Amazon boxed the dell box inside a fairly bigger box and didnt put enough cushioning material in the outer box to keep the dell box secure so when i opened amazons box, i immediate saw that the dell box had been beaten up and the actual power cord to the monitor had found its way out of the dell box (box packing tape had ripped). I couldnt refuse the delivery because ups had already left, so i quickly set everything up to test and luckily everything was fine. Cant really ding the monitor a star for bad 3rd party packaging. TLDR: Unbelievable bang for your buck, beautiful picture, if youre on the fence like I was, dont be. Games look great.

Okay, whats lacking - there is no HDMI input. Does that matter? Not really, I discovered. I had an Amazon basics HDMI to DVI adapter cable - and thats all it took - and since there are no speakers in the Monitor, an HDMI input would be misleading. I absolutely love having the extra 120 pixels vertical the 1920x1200 offers over the usual 1920x1080 of an HD screen. I can slide show HD pictures without losing the menus at top or bottom - same for movies. I can put two pages side by side on MSWord, and the whole text of both shows up. The anti-glare surface is like the other Dell AG screens Ive seen - and to my eyes, works as it should - I dont have to dim the lights to see what I want to see. The easy access menu allows me quick changes for brightness and contrast if Im in bright room. Did I mention the premium screen standard? Mine had no pixel problems whatsoever - but if it did, I think that even a single bright pixel qualifies for a replacement with the Dell Premium Screen policy. (Of course, you should double check to see if thats still in effect.) The stand - that is another premium feature missing from many other units - it slides up, down, pivots left and right, and will reposition to vertical as well as horizontal - all without having to release any catches or buttons. You just move it, and it goes. Theres actual metal in the stand, too! (Not just plastic.) Of course, the extra pixels and sweet stand wouldnt mean much if the image werent so gorgeous - but it is. I can see colors and details never before visible on my 17.3 laptop screen - and from angles that make it possible for others to see them as well. It even comes with VGA and DVI cables bundled. But, as I said, I use my HDMI to DVI adapter (which I did have to get separately), and it works without a hitch. I plug it into my laptop HDMI output, and the laptop has learned to turn off the built-in screen and automatically switch to the Dell. This is a model that has been tried and tested - and nothing is lacking, unless you want speakers.

I have been using the monitor for only a week, so I can say nothing about reliability. It is labeled with a manufacture date of November 2012. The colors are very nice, perhaps a bit better than my older LCD monitors, but nothing spectacular like others have reported. The 1920x1200 format is very nice for CAD (computer aided design) work. There is no problem with the antiglare coating, as others have reported. It has a smooth flat appearance just like my two older Samsung monitors. I work mostly with white backgrounds (CAD and word processing) and I see none of the glittery effect reported in earlier posts. I have noticed no stuck pixels or the backlight bleed that others have reported. Perhaps these were initial production problems. I see no blurring, streaking or other artifacts when playing DVD movies or with action games like Flight Simulator X (running with all options maximized, 30 frames per second and 1920x1200 pixels). Other comments about the 8 ms refresh causing blurring are pretty silly, since our nervous system cant distinguish events shorter than about 20-30 ms. It is connected to an Nvidia Quadro 2000 video card through a DisplayPort cable. Pros: Easy setup. Windows 7 found it and automatically installed a U2412M driver. Height, angle and rotation adjustments are easy. Cons: It doesnt include a DisplayPort (DP) cable. It has black buttons on a black bezel (if there are labels, they are black too). They are essentially invisible under normal room lighting. I know this is the current silly fad, but it is just stupid! When I first turned it on it reported that there was no VGA cable connected and that it would shut down in five minutes. This was silly since it was connected with a DisplayPort cable. I pushed on the buttons (not sure which one because it is black on black) and eventually an input selection menu appeared. When I selected the DisplayPort input it switched and has worked correctly ever since. This should have been unnecessary - with only one cable connected it should have auto detected the signal. A minor annoyance is the way the power, video and USB cables attach on the rear of the display panel. When you rotate the display the cables are dragged with it and may hang on nearby objects. It would have been much better to attach the cables to the base and make the connections to the display internally at the rotation point. The display has two USB ports on the left edge. If used these cables stick out several inches making it necessary to have a lot of clearance. These ports cant be used in a multi monitor system with another monitor sitting next to the U2412M (or anything else close by). Also, if the monitor is rotated these cables are dragged to the top of the display high above the desk top. The side of the display isnt a good location for cable connections. Other comments: This is not a problem with the monitor, but when I installed it Microsoft Office had to be activated a second time. Just for changing monitors on the machine! Thats nuts! I dont know if Microsoft does this for all monitors. I knocked off a star because of the black on black buttons without labels and the failure to auto detect the signal. Otherwise it is very nice.

I was hemming and hawing back and forth between the U2412M and the U2410, its older brother. Im an amateur photographer and do a lot of post-production work in Lightroom and my old 2007WFP Dell 20 monitors werent cutting it in terms of display area. The 24s bring so much to the table and I love 16:10... Ill never go 16:9 as long as its an option. In the end, the insane cost difference to step up to the u2410 was just too much... even though it offers a wider gamut (which is really not something most people will notice, except perhaps in cases of professional print work) and some additional ports, it just wasnt worth it for me. (And I had heard rumors of weird pink/green issues on earlier models of the u2410 that scared me a bit). I will warn this: the u2412ms DEFINITELY REQUIRED CALIBRATING, especially if you want to use two side-by-side. I borrowed a friends Eye One Display calibrator to get them VERY close to each other... the available profiles online did nothing but blow out detail and low-end greys. The calibrated monitors are MUCH better and nearly imperceptibly off on whites. (The calibrator was 5+ years old, I think one of the newer ones would fare better.) These displays are also insanely low temperature. The 2007/2009WFPs which I have and use at work put out a fair amount of heat, but the u2412m uses half the power even at full blast and even after several hours, its very difficult to find any place along the back of the panel thats emanating heat in any measurable sense. This is great if you live in Arizona like me and already have plenty of heat to contend with during the summers. Over all, I couldnt be happier with these. (Except, perhaps, if they were pre-calibrated, but thats what the u2410 offers over the 2412.) Theyre a fantastic size, theyre amazing for gaming, photo finishing, video, and everything in between. I havent seen any ghosting or streaking or even any burn in or anything like that and the build quality of these displays is just great.

You *need* IPS for large-format LCD monitors. I found this out the hard way, by first purchasing and returning a highly reviewed Viewsonic TN monitor after finding the graphic quality to be severity lacking, even to my non-professional eyes. I decided to shell out an extra $50 to try out this low-end IPS monitor and am amazed by what I am getting. Out of the box, hi-res digital photos practically jump out of the screen, showing deep shadows and bright colors. 1080p videos plays almost as good as they do on my high-end LCD TV. I also find the 1920x1200 resolution to be better for computer use - the extra 120 vertical lines (compared to the typical 1080p resolution) cant hurt. The on-board USB 3.0 hub is a nice convenience. This allows me to use the monitor as a mini-docking station for my laptop and a charging station for the mobile phone. I have several peripherals plugged into the monitor, and only need to make one USB connection when my laptop is on my desk to make use of all of them. The only minor annoyance is that the monitor doesnt come with HDMI port (Dell opts for DisplayPort instead). I would think a HDMI + DisplayPort set up would make more sense than DVI + DisplayPort, since nearly all newer computers come with either HDMI or DP, and DVI is becoming obsolete. But since HDMI-DVI adapters cost almost nothing I wouldnt call this an issue.

I was a bit hesitant at first (I am a student and have a limited budget), but decided my laptop screen alone was too small for what I needed to do (simultaneously webcasting, typing notes, and having reference material up). Since the monitor was on sale, I decided to give it a go. As my first IPS monitor, after about a weeks use at 8+ hours/day, I must say it is fantastic. The colors are rich, images and text are clear, and there is a certain vibrancy/clarity that is not apparent in other monitors I have used. The stand enables the height to be easily adjusted, and there are a variety of ports to connect your computer (refer to the description - this monitor does not have HDMI). I do not notice any of the abnormalities referred to by other reviewers such as significant yellowing or distortions due to the anti glare screen. Not to mention my desk is right next to a window, yet I can comfortably use this screen without glare problems. As a long time computer user (over 15 years), I must say this is the best monitor I have ever used and I would agree its probably the best in this price range. Also realize that this monitor has a 1900x1200 native resolution which is a plus (better vertical viewing space than the more common 1900x1080 monitors).

Please note: If you average out the reviews during the most recent 15 month period the average customer review falls well bellow its lifetime average of 4.5 stars. The monitor went through a redesign and is no longer the monitor it once was. We just received 2 Dell UltraSharp U2412M monitors at my company (Rev A01). One has the yellow background tint problem that many reviewers have referred to and the other does not. These were purchased through a corporate supply chain contract and not through Amazon. Thus, the yellow background tint problem is not specific to Dell Monitors supplied by Amazon. We have done some side by side comparisons of older monitors versus newer ones. The older monitors that we purchased prior to mid 2013 are sufficiently bright when set at 67-77 depending on the external lighting. The newer monitors that we have recently received need to be set at 95-100 in order for the brightness to be sufficient. This is with or without the yellow background tint problem. Dell clearly changed the design specifications on this model by designing-out components and reducing the brightness in the process. The yellow background tint is most likely an unintended consequence of lowering those specifications. A relatively easy way to save money if youre a design engineer at Dell but not even close to the monitor it once was if YOU ARE A REPEAT CUSTOMER and can make side by side comparisons of old versus new. Or should I say WAS A REPEAT CUSTOMER. We are returning both of these monitors and will not be ordering any more of them. We order dozens of monitors each year and so I hope Dell takes notice. You can reduce costs thus impacting image quality. Maybe for those who dont have any of the older monitors in front of them its not apparent. But in the case of our company we have many of the older monitors and when placed side by side with the newer ones it is very obvious that this is not even close to the monitor it once was. NEC MultiSync EA244WMi: If you can afford an extra $100 the NEC MultiSync EA244WMi is the monitor to get. You can get it for around $365. Its got excellent contrast and instead of a matte finish like the Dell the screen has a semi-gloss finish. The semi gloss finish is more than enough to eliminate screen glare while theres less grainyness and thus a sharper picture than the Dell. You will especially notice the difference if you read a lot of text. Read the reviews on B&H photo in addition to those on Amazon. PCMag rates it the top 24 monitor for 2014. Its superior to the Dell. Additionally its got a 3 year warranty and NEC stands behind their warranty. Many reviews have had problems getting warranty service for Dell products purchased through Amazon. You wont have that problem with NEC. Their warranty is legit and they have a good reputation for honoring it. The ASUS PA248Q is a fine monitor if text sharpness is not as important to you. However, if you will be reading a lot of text you will find that the text on the ASUS is a bit fuzzy compared to the Dell. As previously mentioned, the best of both worlds is the NEC MultiSync EA244WMi: Sharper text, better colors, web pages are sharper. Just all around the NEC is the one to get if you dont mind paying the extra $100.

I have always enjoyed my Dell flat-screens and felt they were a grade above the alternatives in build quality. As an IT professional I get hands on with many others and have not seen or used one that I preferred to my Dell. However, my Dell monitors have always been purchased by my employer, at significant expense. So when I needed a monitor due to taking a new job I went to work trying to find one that I would be happy with. When I came across this one I was very happy to see that there was an option to have another Dell that would meet my needs, that I could afford. I was very tempted to step up and buy the more expensive model to get the claimed color accuracy but am satisfied that I did not. After using this monitor for a month, I am very satisfied with it. The screen is definitely larger than the one I was using before, I thought it was a 24 as well but perhaps not. I am very happy that it is 1920x1200. It pairs perfectly with my Dell 2007FP which is 1600x1200. The 1680x1050 I was using before always annoyed me that it was larger but with lower resolution, I never understood that trend in the industry. This monitor is notably brighter and whiter than the Dell2007FP it sits next too. Out of the box I had to reduce the brightness, it was just too much. In summary I will say unless you are a professional in need of perfect color matching, I cannot see a reason that you would be disappointed with this monitor.
