I am trying to make the ground cover for my outdoor enclosure for my box turtle as natural as possible. This reptile substrate is one of the materials I use.

Like other reviewers, I was surprised by how small the bag of DUSPRO 24 QUARTS Reptile Substrate Moss Mix Bark was. I am a regular Zoo Med Reptibark user and thought Id try this for a change of pace. While I dont have a complaint about the quality of the product, Reptibarks 24 quart bag appears to be much more generous than DUSTPROs 24 quart bag.

Perfect substrate for my baby turtle. Seems the moss was dried in layers for being able to pull sections easily. Laid the bark down then soaked the amount of moss I needed. Soaked for about 3-5mins and was good to go, pull apart as needed. Moss was clean and very soft.

Hey Friends, I got this Substrate mix for out Box Turtle tank, and he is very happy! It smells great and comes in two seperate packs, so you can make a mix to your liking! Good stuff!

Nice quality substrate for reptiles (Im using it for a frog habitat). The bark is in a separate bag that is hand tied with twine. It is clean and appears to be sterile. Included a nice handwritten card thanking for supporting a small family owned business.

Looking at the photos, which is always hard to judge size, I thought there would be more included in the bag. The moss is compressed which was amazing. The bark and moss came in separately sealed bags, but the pine bark was very thin and broke open as I was removing it. At this point, I was very glad the bag wasnt as big as I was expecting because I was cleaning bark off my carpet. The moss is nice, but it doesnt hold the moisture like I was hoping for. It could be the type of moss and I am no moss expert, but I was hoping I could soak it and have it hold moisture. The bark chunks are fairly large and I know they are supposed to be Pine, but they seem to splinter and cause slivers more than I expected Pine to do. I ended up not using the bark in my Ball Pythons cage, but did spread some of the moss around for looks and to add to the substrate a little. I would NOT call this an adequate substrate for any reptile, but I would classify it as an add in product to a good substrate.

So far, Im quite happy with this reptile substrate. The moss is a lovely natural green coloration, and comes apart in nice, even clumps. Its non-dusty, and doesnt fall apart. The moss is very compacted, so you get more than it looks like initially. The chunks of bark look nice, and are a reasonable size. I was a little shocked to see that the moss and bark arrived seperate, rather than as a mix like the product photos imply. For me this ended up being a pro, however, as I can still mix the moss and bark together myself, but it also makes it easier to use them seperately for adding accents to my pets enclosure, such as draping moss over his corkbark hides. If this product has one flaw, I do wish the ratio of moss and bark was more even. By volume, you receive significantly more moss than you do bark. I do feel like this product is of good quality, and you receive quite a lot of substrate; Im using it to add variety to my pets existing substrate that uses coconut coir as a base, so I have more than enough, but you might need a few bags for a 20-gallon breeder tank, depending on what species youre keeping. This product is a bit on the high end price-wise for the amount of substrate you receive, but Ive certainly seen worse, and I like that this product seems to be free of dust and debris. Id likely use it again if I could get a deal on it.

My juvenile dessert tortoise likes to hide when she sleeps. This material provided plenty of good fluff for her to bury herself with. This was perfect as it allowed her to quickly settle into her nightly routine and tuck herself in. However, its absorbent properties are not compatible with a reptile that pees a lot. My tortoise does. Unfortunately, it does not have a lot of absorbent capabilities, which means, if my little girl relieved herself before I had a chance to take her outside, the substrate is pretty much ruined and needs replacing. Hence the reason for the 4 stars. If your reptile does not pee much, this would be perfect as it allows them to make little hiding places.

This bag of substrate is much bigger than I thought itd be! Im very pleased about that! Its made of Vietnamese dried moss and bark. When you open it, you cam smell what the forest floor aroma. Its not overpowering, in fact I actually like it. I got this for part of the land area inside my Red Slider box turtles terrarium. I think its perfect as Im going for as realistic of an environment for them as possible. Really happy with this product, price point is good and you get a lot! Definitely recommend.

This comes as a two bags within a single package. One bag are the bark chips, the other is the compressed moss. The 24 quarts is mainly from expanding the compressed moss. The bark chips are fairly big in size, about 1.5, and maybe a quart in total. I thought this might be a more even mix between moss and bark, and that it would come premixed, with smaller bark chips.
