> 24 hourIll admit to being a bit skeptical of the claims about the reduction in surge current. I have a 3.5 ton carrier unit, and the instructions on their website were spot on. The LRA on my compressor is listed at 108A. I was able to measure 77A with my cheap clamp meter. On the first startup, the max current was 44A. One the second it was 38A, and by the last startup Im now just at 32A. You can hear it when youre beside the unit. Its no longer a bang type noise, as it is a slow humming spin up. Thats allowed me to run the core of my house from a portable generator. I wish I knew about them sooner, and I wish they were integrated into all units from the manufacturer.

> 24 hourWe live near the gulf coast, but we were also without power for 3 days last winter. I bought a 12,000 watt peak generator and was hoping it would power my 4 ton downstairs AC and fridge and freezer. Upon generator hook-up the blower fan started okay- but the compressor fan started turning- and then quit. I researched and found this MicroAir unit and had it installed. Now, I run my entire house with comfortably AC throughout. When the AC compressor starts there is hardly a hiccup in the generator.

> 24 hourThese are stupendously expensive but do actually work very well indeed. Has taken a lot of strain off of my solar inverter. The only bad things about it are very short Bluetooth range and the fact that it is on the load side of the contactor so you can only see whats happening when your AC is actually on.

> 24 hourEdit : Just moved from a 2 story house with 2 ac units a 2.5ton 1st floor and a 3ton upstairs and added Kickstarters to both units so my 12kw portable generator could handle the whole house and it did but i knew the generator wouldnt handle the new house with 3.5ton at 119amp inrush edit : so i ordered this a few months back for a new construction home and i waited till i knew what HVAC system was installed so i could order the correct one and i moved in about 2 months ago but between all the smart switches, security system ceiling fans etc etc i finally got to install this and i have to say Im blown away as my 3.5ton unit was pulling 119amps on start (inrush) and i could easily notice the lights dim when the ac kicked on but now Im at 27.5 amps inrush so i know theres no problem my 12k w Duromax dual fuel generator will handle the new home i measured the inrush amps with the meter and compared to the Bluetooth app and was an exact match so overall i am very pleased to the point that i may order 2 more for my old 2 story house Im renting out Edit : so its been a several weeks ago seems to be going great finally got around to installing it in a weather tight box just to give it some extra protection very happy with it

> 24 hourI have a 20 year old unit, about 2.5 tons. My LRA was reported as 78 amps last time I had my unit PMd by a technician. At that time he tried to sell me a hard start kit for like $400 installed. I decided to learn more about AC units, realized i should definitely take action on lowering my LRA for my aged unit, and came across a recommendation for this soft starter. Installation was easy to me, directions were very clear, but some people might be intimidated by wiring, thats the only reason I rank 4/5 stars. You can find videos on YouTube explaining how to do this. In terms of results, this gizmo took my peak amps from the reported 78A down to 24A! Should definitely help preserve the remaining life of my AC motor. So far so good! (its only been a couple weeks since install).

> 24 hourI have a 3 Ton Carrier unit that is 11 years old now. First thing I did was check the max amperage before any modifications. Mine came in at 68 amps. I then replaced the original capacitor just because and checked again. The max amperage came down to 60 amp. After installing the soft start unit, starting it 5 times per instructions (have to wait a few minutes between each start) and checking, I was shocked! Max amperage was 19 amps!!! I then switched over to my 6000 watt LP generator. It starts the AC with only the slightest change in rpm’s. Wow! Was never able to do this before. I have an oil furnace that runs off the generator but never could use the heat pump or AC. Now I can do it all! The cost of the EasyStart plus generator comes out to about what one would pay for just a larger generator to run the unit as it was. So instead of paying more money for a larger more expensive generator that consumes much more fuel, I can use a smaller generator having less fuel consumption. More importantly, I will have less wear and tear on the compressor. Wish I had this on my unit when it was new. Highly recommended!
