> 3 dayI have a 20 year old unit, about 2.5 tons. My LRA was reported as 78 amps last time I had my unit PMd by a technician. At that time he tried to sell me a hard start kit for like $400 installed. I decided to learn more about AC units, realized i should definitely take action on lowering my LRA for my aged unit, and came across a recommendation for this soft starter. Installation was easy to me, directions were very clear, but some people might be intimidated by wiring, thats the only reason I rank 4/5 stars. You can find videos on YouTube explaining how to do this. In terms of results, this gizmo took my peak amps from the reported 78A down to 24A! Should definitely help preserve the remaining life of my AC motor. So far so good! (its only been a couple weeks since install).

> 3 dayThis device reduced my inrush current that allows me run a 4 ton central unit, a 3 ton central unit and a 2hp well pump on a 15kw Generac generator. The Hutch Mountain customer service was outstanding.

> 3 dayThese are stupendously expensive but do actually work very well indeed. Has taken a lot of strain off of my solar inverter. The only bad things about it are very short Bluetooth range and the fact that it is on the load side of the contactor so you can only see whats happening when your AC is actually on.

> 3 dayNothing bad about tech support just never had to contact them. I found the online wiring diagrams easier for me to follow then the supper detailed instructions. I only have about 20 starts so time will tell had good lasting the unit will be. That said, although a little costly I would highly recommend this, my starting amps went from 76 down between 25 and 29 amps for my 4 ton AC, so fell pretty confidant my 8000 Watt generator will work but havent tested yet. I like the Bluetooth and works very well but I would like to see about a $40 drop on the cost. It is built very will but wish it was small enough to mount inside the AC unit just to keep it out of the sun and heat.

> 3 dayMy 1990 model Rheem air conditioner compressor consistently took 91 amps to start. After installing the micro air easy start and evaluating its performance for over 500 cycles now, it averages 27 amps to start and although it claims not to lower running amps, those to have dropped from 17.5 to 15.7 on average. The significance is that now during a power outage I can start and run my central AC on either my gas powered 7000 watt generator or my solar powered 6000 watt off grid inverter. I couldn’t be happier with this product. Sunshine = Middle fingers up to the the power monopoly’s !!!

18-11-2024This should be standard for every AC compressor. This is a no-brainer if you need to run your AC using a generator. The manufacturer deserves an award for the simplicity of installation and use, and design functionality. Our new (4 months old) 2.5 ton AC previously had a startup amperage of over 75 amps. Because the peak amperage exceeded the LRA 72A rating, our AC tech recommended a hard-start kit installed for $305. Hard-start kits are available on Amazon for under $25! This piqued my interest in this subject, so I researched it. For a few dollars more than the AC tech-installed hard start kit, I found this soft start kit. The hard-start kit helps to lower the starting amperage with a fixed circuit design. This soft-start kit uses a microprocessor to learn and apply the optimum four stage starting curve. If the hard-start kit is good, the soft start is at least four times better. I also appreciate the ability to connect to it via blue tooth to know exactly the peak and running amperages every time. The peak that was over 72A is now 19.5 to 22A, and runs at 6.7 to 7.2A. My 6000W generator struggled to start the AC, and sometimes failed. With this soft start kit, the generator now handles the AC starting and running with ease. Not only will it enhance the life of the equipment, but it starts more quietly, and saved me from having to buy another generator. Highly, highly recommended!

Greater than one weekThis product lowered the inrush current of my customers AC unit from 88amps to 24amp by the 5th start-up! We tested it while the home was under portable generator power and the customer was able to run his AC. Great product. I will be purchasing this for my own home.

> 3 dayI am at 6,700 starts on my Heatpump since installing . I love this product . I can now use my Generator to run the heatpump . Avg startup current is about 37amps , down from 67 Amps .Then after start it runs around 12-13 amps . Besides the ability to use a Generator to start . Now my heatpump starts quietly , Its far easier on the unit itself with softstarts , and im saving a bunch on electricity as well so now the easy start has become Free. I installed myself as i am an inside Wireman by trade .

> 3 dayThis thing came without quick connects or ANYTHING to set it up. Customer Support didnt reply when I requested help on what size quick connectors, size of mounting screws, etc. This is very expensive and Im really disappointed that I now have to go searching for the parts to install. **UPDATE: Customer Support contacted me the next day & provided an install kit and instructions on wire connections.

> 3 dayWe live near the gulf coast, but we were also without power for 3 days last winter. I bought a 12,000 watt peak generator and was hoping it would power my 4 ton downstairs AC and fridge and freezer. Upon generator hook-up the blower fan started okay- but the compressor fan started turning- and then quit. I researched and found this MicroAir unit and had it installed. Now, I run my entire house with comfortably AC throughout. When the AC compressor starts there is hardly a hiccup in the generator.
