My second 830. First cracked after accidentally dropping it, hence the rubber protector this time. Great computer, so so Garmin software. I like that I can use the 830 to monitor my Radar, drivetrain batteries, and even my inReach.

Item arrived fast and was listed the cheapest I could find. The cheaper price did not mean cheaper quality though!

When using this GPS unit for hiking its typically 1/3 to 1/2 off the mileage actually hiked. I have been comparing this Edge 830 unit to my Edge 130, Alltrails Pro, eTrix and onXhunt mapping programs. All are in agreement as to the mileage hiked except for the $400 Garmin Edge 830. For a 3 mile hike it will show 1.5 miles while the rest of them show 2.95 to 3.01 miles. I believe the problem is the quality of the receiver in the Edge 830. Not very sensitive? Numerous times I noted that while moving down a trail the Edge 830 wouldnt show any speed. Its thinking Im standing still. Zero! While all other GPS units would show 1.5 mph to 2.5 mph. AND the cookie crumb trail drawn out on each of the maps showing where Ive already hiked all show the same course. And the Edge 830 agrees with the other units stated above about the energy used, elevation climbed, caliories burned and the trail/course used. Just the mileage is incorrect. Accuracy is not confirmed! Currently, I have little confidence in the Edge 830. So Im forced to always have at least 1 other GPS device to varify distance covered.

This is my goto and I use it on all my bikes. I have had no problems and tracking has been excellent. I havent even gotten to all the features yet.

Its been 30 years since I last rode my bicycle and this little Garmin 830 with sensor bundle has been great to help me get in better shape - The heart monitor helps me maximize my riding without overdoing myself - The ride datta is very interesting with bike speed, cadence speed, elevations, and certainly heart and stress information - My wife can see where I am on her maps which helps her feel better about this new gig of mine - The data can be seen graphically on the Garmin Connect app that really shows where you are and your progress to get you where you want to go - Great little gadget well worth the pricy price and thankful for the improved health this is helping me get - Id buy it again if I needed to.
