I replaced the stock tubes on a Fender Pawn Shop Excelsior with these JJ tubes. Excellent upgrade in tone.

The Yellow Jacket Triode configuration works exactly as described. Installation was about 3 minutes. These tubes tame my Randall RT2/50 power amp and allow me to have power section saturation without blowing my windows out and getting the neighbors on the phone to the cops. The resulting sound is full and ballsy, but at at a reasonable volume. With very efficient speakers (say Celestion Blues or other alnicos like Ted Webers) this throttled-down power section will still give a startling amount of volume, so the YJS triodes wont relegate your amp to the bedroom. Perfect practice volume, and maybe enough for a small club. Highly recommended.

[Used in a Ceriatone Dumble Overdrive Special style amp substituting for 6V6gt.] Outstanding cleans: nice crisp highs and a bit more bass than I heard with my old-stock (other brand) 6v6gt tubes which had plenty of life left in them... just chalk it up to design differences? The new JJ tubes even have more clean headroom and theyre a little quieter at high volume = more on the top and bottom! That surprised me! The trans-conductance matching was perfect (confirmed on my own tube tester and in-circuit) and this let me dial the bias in right where I wanted it. This matching is especially important to avoid clipping from a tube that is out-of-range, otherwise youll compromise your bias setting with one tube too high and the other low. I set these quite a bit colder (19.5mv) than the prior set (straddling @ 24mv) but they JJs showed no signs of clipping on the oscilloscope and were pleasing to my ear. Note that these JJ 6v6s tubes are physically larger (longer/taller) than typical 6v6gt tubes by about 1 (2.2cm). For most it wont be a problem but if youve *very* tight clearances in your amp chassis it might be an issue so please be aware. Id rate this tube set + matching service six stars, if I could. Im tempted to buy a spare set now just to put them aside for the future.

A while back I got the book How to Hot Rod Your Fender Amp. In it, it says that the recent(90s and up)Fender Blues Deluxe and Hotrod Deluxe amps can be modded to take high power 6V6s made by JJ and Electro Harmonix. My stock Blues Deluxe amp was 40 watts and was running the tubes biased cold from the factory to make the tubes last a long time. The problem is running them cold makes the amp kind of sterile and unpushed. I had these installed and the amp biased correctly for them and my amp became much more touch sensitive at higher volumes. The Blues Deluxes preamp is based on a tweed Fender Bassman so to me I have a Bassman running into a Deluxe output stage. I changed the stock speaker to a Celestion Vintage 30 and the amp is much nicer on stage. These tubes have shown no signs of any problems; not glowing red or anything and I think it was a very good mod. Im guessing its about 22 watts now and is plenty loud for any indoor gig. The Celestion will handle 60 watts so should be safe from being blown out by the amps much lower wattage so I dont mind turning it up a little more.

I got these tubes to help lower the power and take some of the bass response out of my hot rod deville. They worked like a charm. Very tough tubes and I can get good power tube distortion at large gig appropriate levels. Still a very loud amp though. These tubes are great they simultaneously tamed my deville and made it sound tougher.

I got confused if I had ordered a pair or a single tube. Called the seller. They were very helpful. This is a matched pair as indicated by the MP. Used them to replace the 6L6s in a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. They work and sound great!
