Cant speak to its durability as I’ve only been using it a month or so, but it has been perfect so far.

The many compartments and departments arrh handy and also has recesses for precision tools and drivers.

Wonderful for soldering. However, if you wont be working with lots of tiny components, like in phone repair, all of the compartments are just superfluous and take up space from a contiguous work space. Instead, if you are just soldering and assembling larger electronics components, I would recommend a pad with fewer compartments or just an equivalent heat-resistant flat pad with no compartments if you can find one. If you do buy this particular pad and later find the compartments are unnecessary for your needs, just flip it over--its flat and the whole thing is the same heat-resistive material.

Decently heat resistant. I tried appying a soldering iron for 5 seconds, it was fine. There was only a very faint smell when I took it out of the packaging. The smell was gone within a week. There is some amount of plasticizer within the material, its not pure silicone. It turns slightly white during a squeeze test, but this doesnt affect performance. Most of the weird little pockets of the KT-180 are surprisingly useful, except the strange strip of absurdly small pockets down the left hand side, and the diagonal ones on the right hand side. Larger pockets and squared off pockets would have made much more sense.

I repaired my daughters phone on this mat which allowed me to keep track of little screws and parts in order so I could reassemble in correct order and it really helped this older mind. I soldered another project and accidently dropped my iron on the mat with no burn or melting... I was supprised. The iron only dropped on the mat and I was able to recover quickly, but I was really expecting a burn at least. The temp was 425F so the mat can handle this for a short time at least.

Ive worked on electronics for more than 30 years, and I have always used cloths and paper towels as my work surface when soldering. I learned at an early age that solder can drip off the iron and bond with wood and damage the polyurethane coating on many surfaces. A towel or cloth, or even a paper towel will provide some protection, but a silicone mat like this takes soldering to a new level. This is a generously sized mat, complete with several indentations where you can place screws and other parts to keep them separated. This feature is understated and has proven to be almost as valuable as the protection that the mat provides to your surfaces. Theres also the fact that the smooth, blue background makes seeing your solder joints and components a little more easily, compared to a textured wood or towel background as was the case with me for most of my life. The silicone does not burn easily, although I havent actually held my iron to it for more than a second or so and there was no scarring, melting or burning of the surface. This comes with an electrostatic grounding strap for your wrist, and a couple tweezers for picking up parts. Neither is of exceptional quality but are still nice additions to this. Ive never owned a grounding strap before and would improvise with my own wires, but this makes it easier to just do it the right way. This feels like a quality, heavy duty mat that should last for many years, and the protection and ability to keep your parts organized while you work make it a valued addition to any hobbyists workbench.

Lots of places to keep parts separated. Protects work surface.

Ive started using this mat for any project small enough to fit on my desk. The magnetic areas are nice for keeping up with the 20 case screws I sometimes have to remove and the little bins keep larger parts and tools straight. I might have bought a bigger one in hindsight but this one will work just fine and I expect it will get a lot of use.
