Dont have any overhead lights in my bedrooms so I have a couple of those standalone lamps, added this smart plug so I could be in bed and not have to walk across the room in complete darkness. Added plus is that I can set a schedule for the lights so my early 4am wakeups are just a little less painful when I have the lights turning on for me to help me wake up.

I first bought these years ago because my state has the highest energy rates in the nation and we are acutely aware that appliances turned off are still sucking energy. When my kids were younger I could shut off their computers, tvs, etc when they werent home to use them. My electric bill went down 30% almost immediately. Now I have them all over my house working with Google assistant. As I leave or enter a room, I just tell my google assistant (using routines) and the power connects or disconnects accordingly. I say goodnight and the whole house shuts down with the acceptation the few items I need, like the refrigerator, cell charger etc..
