Bought for a 2006 Solara to replace a hood support that no longer worked. Easy install, great fit and now I no longer need a stick to hold the hood up.

The gas lift in my 2008 Solara ran out of gas and I got tired of having to keep a broom handle to prop it open when needed. I was concerned it might be difficult to install, but my fears were unfounded. Removing the old lift can be a little tricky if youve never done it before. Its best to be assisted by someone who can keep the hood propped up, or just use a broom handle. The trick to remove the existing lift is that both ends are firmly held in place by a steel clip you need to pull before they can be released. To pull the clip, you need a small flat blade screwdriver. Position it parallel to the lift with the tip pointing towards the end of the rod, and insert the tip between the clip and the cup; turn the screwdriver to pop the clip, and you can pull that end of the lift without resistance (this is where you get smashed on the head by the heavy hood if you didnt first prop it up with a broom or if you chose to go with an assistant and theyre not paying attention). Do the same thing to the other end, and all you have to do now is pop in the new one (no need to pull the clip to install it).

This hood support worked great. Fit was perfect. No problem with installation after I got the hang of it - wasnt totally obvious. Now the hood stays up like it should!
