MikroTik RB4011 Ethernet 10-Port Gigabit Router (RB4011iGS+RM)

This device is amazing! After switching to MikroTik products I’m not going back to baseline SOHO brands. The RouterBoard OS does have a learning curve, but the MikroTik Wiki and forums and incredibly helpful and folks are responsive.

My network looks about like this. -11 Vlans. -37 filter rules. -No NAT, this is an inside router and I have edge firewalls that handle nat and WAN load balancing. -All internal vlans flow through the SFP+ using 1m DAC. The DMZ is hooked up via one of the rj45 ports. - 1677 connections active right now - iperf between two machine on different vlans shows 8.22gbps transfer speed -device is hot, they should have charged 20.00 more and added fans.

I bought this to replace a working Mikrotik Hex S in order to increase the VPN performance. The performance increase was in line with what I was hoping for based on reviews. The only thing I did not like but I knew about purchasing the unit was this unit does not have a micro SD card slot to use for Dude and other uses. The interface is not for those used to a Linksys or Netgear unit but once you understand the syntax of the various commands whichever method you use to manage the router, it is a powerful unit for controlling the border of your network. I use this with the Mikrotik cAP Dual-Band 802.11 AC RBcAPGi-5acD2nD-US access point to provide wireless access on my network managed by CAPsMAN from the router.

Amazing router few to zero problems, never restart. If you are not a geek you may have trouble with setup. Setup is not bad just a little technical

This gets the job done admirably. This is a fast, configurable router that is perfect for home gigabit internet use. The configurability comes at the price of it being complex. The out of the box config needed some tweaking to make it do what I needed to but it wasnt stupidly hard to figure out. Its definitely not for people who dont know how or want to learn how routing works. This isnt a consumer level router. Definitely worth every penny of the asking price.

Unlike the standard rack setup of the MikeoTik 3000rm or the Ubiquiti ER4 rack mount kit; the Kit on this is a very flimsy design with only 1 screw on just the bottom of each arm assembly to hold the rack mount to the device; there is no top screw mount. This should really have 2 on top and 2 on bottom of each side. Also the fit to the device has a lot of slop to it and not a tight fit. The device itself is substantially built and this feels like an afterthought. Best to wall mount or shelf mount the device instead of using the rack ear kit. The rack mount kit needs a substantial implementation redesign or the 4011 needs a bigger chassis with typical rack ears.

Small, light and powerful

I primarily purchased this firewall router because I needed reliable IPSEC tunnels to my home office and this router has hardware acceleration. File transfers that used to take overnight now complete in minutes. Having 10 completely configurable gigabit ethernet ports over a pair of 2.5 GB switches is a definite plus. There is a learning curve though and most of the available information on the web is out dated having been posted about previous versions of routerOS. If youre up to the research this firewall router should be everything you will ever need in a home / small office firewall router.
