I bought this to replace an RB2011UiASrm because I couldnt push anywhere near the bandwidth I had available on the WAN through the 2011 using srcnat. The 4011 is an awesome next gen router. Im easily getting 600Mbs/s NAT traffic through the WAN, even with about 30 firewall rules in place and CPU is till >10%. Nothing but good things to say about it EXCEPT: It does run a little warm. Not a big deal, but leave some air space around it, it needs it. and the bracket is a POS! I dont know why they cheaped out on the rack mounting bracket, but its complete junk and held in place by 2 tiny little screws (2 total, one on each side). Other than the bracket, this thing is a real jewel.

I migrated our system from Ubiquiti. I had an Edgerouter Lite and 2 APLite access points. I became sick of the promise of Ubiquiti equipment. What killed it in our house was WIFI calling from cell phones that kept dropping calls which I was able to trace to the Edge-router Lite. Their APLite access points were also unreliable. Adoptions half the time failed, and Ubiquiti software is poor and unreliable and for whatever reason doesnt integrate the Edgerouter Lite with the APs. IP addresses were obviously being assigned by the Edge-router, but half the time didnt show in the list. So, out went the APLites in favor of TP-Link Omada AC1750s, and this, the MikroTik RB4011 Ethernet 10-Port Gigabit Router. From a speed performance, no drop off from the Edge-router, and also runs cooler. reboot times much faster. Upgraded firmware without a hitch, and all equipment works without a hitch. Best of all, NO DROPPED WIFI CALLS from the cell phones. I dont know if there was a setting in the Edge-router that defaults to a protocol that needed to be changed and I just didnt see it, or if it is a defect in router software. Either way, it solved my problem. Of interest, I port forwarded the address for my Plex Server on the MicroTik which allows me access to my media from outside of my network. Plex shows the network as unavailable, but it all works outside my home network. Dont know what the setting on the router is that would fix that (or if it is the router at all), but it works.

I run mine with about 30 firewall rules and get about 960Mbps on a gigabit connection. I assume the 40Mbps loss is due to network overhead. It does add about 5-10ms latency compared to my old heXs router, but I assume that could be a result of frame size or a similar issue. The heXs could only support 300Mbps NAT. It doesnt get hot at all. I havent used a thermal probe, but it feels to be between 80 and 90f. That may go up if you have a heavier data load.

This is a great device. This is a isp grade device, with so much more features than your typical router/switch/firewall. It gives me the ability to create a home and multiple work environments, is rock stable, and works well togeather with multiple access point. This combines the functionality of a switch, a router, a firewall that is commercial grade. I currently have a home network on a 192 address, plus 4 work networks, with vlaning, and a vpn. I will do bgp with openshift soon as well. Working great with vmware as well. If your a technical user, this works great.

Like all mikrotik devices, this is a swiss army knife of routers thanks to their RouterOS software. I was first introduced to Mikrotik devices through my work and do not want to go back to anything else. The level of control mikrotik gives you over your network is unreal. These devices arent for the timid though. With so many options and things you can configure, it can feel daunting at first. Luckily theyve recently been including default configuration options for most common situations thats made it easier to get up and running. For my set up, I have the RB4011 paired with a cAP AC and wAP. The 4011 is the brain of the network and I manage both the cAP AC and wAP through CAPsMAN. I have three separate networks: Standard for most devices, one for IoT, and one for security cameras. All three get internet access through the router and are on separate VLANS. I also set up firewall rules so my IoT network can only go out to the internet and cannot see anything else on the local network. The exception to this is communication to and from a PRTG Network Monitoring server I use locally to verify everything is running smoothly. On top of this, I set up my parents network in a similar way. Since we use mikrotik devices I was easily able to set up an encrypted tunnel and can monitor their network health and adjust if needed.

Dont waste your time with anything other than this for your home wired router. Incredible performance and the way to go!

Performance is superb. The more you give it to do it seems like the better it performs

Its so easy to pay 3x, 4x, or even more for other routers that dont have a fraction of the features of this one. It is pretty complicated and definitely NOT for the faint of heart, but you can make this thing do just about anything you can imagine, and there are a ton of videos and tutorials online to help you. On top of the features, it is F-A-S-T...I have seen sustained network bandwidth of 980+ Mbps!

The RB4011 uses the amazingly powerful quad core Cortex A15 chip from Annapurna labs, an Amazon company, same as in our carrier grade RB1100AHx4 unit. The CPU supports IPsec hardware acceleration, there is 1GB of RAM, so this device will easily handle any task you have configured RouterOS to perform. All of this power, in a compact and professional looking solid metal enclosure in matte black. In addition to the ten 1 Gbps ethernet ports, an SFP+ port provides optional 10 Gbps connectivity through an SFP+ module (not included). All of this power, in a compact and professional looking solid metal enclosure in matte black. The ethernet model includes two rackmount ears, that will securely fasten the unit in standard 1U rack space.
