As always, Mikrotik outperforms its price point substantially. This is a great device for home networks. Try it. You will not be disappointed.

I have only have this router for aa couple of days. I had to take a star away because the interface and setup is not as simple as it should be. However, that also may be because of the complex environment that I have. Super fast router/bridge. I tested it In both router and bridged modes and both result in similar speeds (825-989mbps). Of course YMMV based on your ISPs plans. Once it got setup, it was blazing fast. Pros: Super fast routing. You will get as much mbps as your ISP will allow in your plan. High performance 1G ports that offer flexible vlan switching and segmentation. lighting fast SPF port that worked with my DAC cable. Overall awesome router in itself. Cons: Not-so-simple configuration. For example, I had to reset the router multiple times. Switching from router to bridge mode hung for several minutes at a time. Bridge mode switched back to router mode without warning, which caused a hangup in the network. Untested: I have not tested the wi-fi signal since this is being bridged to an existing network. YMMV. If you are looking for a complete router with stronger wi-fi signal, Id recommend the following: mikrotik rb4011igs+5hacq2hnd-in - Prices appear to start at $220.00 + How to improve: Provide an update that offer the ability to switch modes without freezing on reconfiguration. Display a confirmation once a task is complete (i.e, after changes are applies - operation complete). This way a person knows if the operation was successful or not. Overall: Awesome router and I would definitely buy again. Great price, amazing service. I would definitely recommend to a colleague.

This is a superb piece of hardware at a great price. In my initial testing I was really pleased and impressed with the performance. So if youre a professional with deep understanding of how to set this up, go for it. (But read the rest of my comments here first.) If youre not a pro, or at least someone with extensive network management expertise, you might wish to consider something with an easier management interface. The basic configuration was simple enough. But I wanted to set up WAN failover. And I wanted to set up basic security stuff, including setting it to disable pings and connection attempts from the WAN side. I hadnt even gotten to the advanced capabilities. But it was frankly just a giant pain. The website guide and the forum were barely helpful, especially when professionals argued with one another about how to best do something. (Not a confidence builder.) This took hours of trial and error. And just resetting the router is a pain, you have to hold the button for 30 seconds, after which it might or might not reset. Finally, I thought I had it all done right, and was happily running tests. And then I found out that I had somehow managed to disable the ability of my wifi access points to connect to the network. At this point I decided to accept defeat, rather than spend another day trying to figure it all out. I sent it back, thank goodness for Amazons excellent return policy. I wish Mikrotik would invest in a really nice GUI, and a small set of config wizards: yes, that would add cost, because good software costs money. But I think it would greatly increase the appeal of their products. Even pros like ease of use, because it saves time and hassle and reduces chances of error.

Its so easy to pay 3x, 4x, or even more for other routers that dont have a fraction of the features of this one. It is pretty complicated and definitely NOT for the faint of heart, but you can make this thing do just about anything you can imagine, and there are a ton of videos and tutorials online to help you. On top of the features, it is F-A-S-T...I have seen sustained network bandwidth of 980+ Mbps!

My network looks about like this. -11 Vlans. -37 filter rules. -No NAT, this is an inside router and I have edge firewalls that handle nat and WAN load balancing. -All internal vlans flow through the SFP+ using 1m DAC. The DMZ is hooked up via one of the rj45 ports. - 1677 connections active right now - iperf between two machine on different vlans shows 8.22gbps transfer speed -device is hot, they should have charged 20.00 more and added fans.

The RB4011 being one of the first hardware devices I have had from MikroTik has been great. Setup with the Webgui was pretty easy to follow. Shipped it to my colo rack miles away from me and had a issue with not being able to remote access via Wan port but with the techs connecting a console cable it was easy to fix. Is currently holding a full IPv4 and IPv6 bgp session with no issues. The SFP+ cage work good with my 10Gbps copper SFP+.

Absolutely phenomenal performance and the best set of features I have ever seen. You cannot beat the price as well.

Greatly improved the performance and security of our home/small business network. The GUI allows me to easily setup what I want and dont want. I was a little intimidated by other reviews, but it was straight forward. I had all the ports set up and doing what was needed in less than 20 minutes.
