Moen 1200 One-Handle Kitchen and Bathroom Faucet Cartridge Replacement, Brass

Before I installed it, I thought it would be difficult, because of the videos, that emphasize possible problems removing the old part. I encountered no problems removing the old part or installing the new. I like the design. It seems simple and robust.

This is just what I needed to replace the old shower unit which was leaking. The brass is solid and seems like it will last better than the plastic ones I have seen in stores. I works perfectly after I replaced the old one.

I installed this into a Moen Chateau 7500 old sink faucet. It works great. (Note: the last time I needed to replace the cartridge I tried the Moen model 1225 which is made of plastic. When I tried to remove the old 1225, it broke leaving the bottom rubber parts and plastic piece in the faucet. I was able to remove the rubber pieces with some extended needle nose pliers and the bottom plastic piece with an extra wide and flat, flat tipped screwdriver that kind of wedged into the plastic piece allowing me to pull it out.) I believe these new all brass versions do not have the lead problem that the original all brass versions had. And most important they wont break when being pulled out for replacement.

I bought two of these cartridges and replaced a shower valve and a sink valve,in 2011. No problems at all both cartridges work great. They are not true Moen parts though. Also used a Moen cartridge puller which worked as it was suppose to. Just make sure to use the little plastic cartridge do-hicky to loosen up the old cartridge before using the puller. And lube up the new cartridge with plumbers grease before installing it. Also take off the little snap ring and pull the inside out of the cartridge and lube the O-rings that are inside also. Hardest part in my opinion is getting the u-clip back into place with the new cartridge installed. Use lots of silicon grease when installing and things go back together really smoothly. Update 11-24-15, Had to replace this cartridge 4 years later. I was disappointed in how long it lasted. Maybe a true Moen part would be worth the extra money after all.

This is a perfect fit. I was afraid I was going to have to do some major plumbing being that the original was fairly old. This part fit exact, and the brass and stainless steel work far better than the old one. Very happy customer.

This item worked exactly as I hoped it would. There were no hitches at the time I used it, and it made my plumbing project proceed smoothly.

I did not see the name Moen on the cartridge, so it may be a fake. BUT I installed it anyway and it works great. My shower valve is over 30 years old. The center stem came out easily but to get the brass cartridge out I had to use a makeshift puller. I used a 1/2 tap to thread the center of old brass cartridge. Then used a 1/2 bolt and 3/4 socket as the puller. It has to be a 1/2 drive socket so the bolt can go through it. The bolt I had was too long so I used a smaller size 1/2 drive socket as a spacer. I cleaned the inside of the old valve with Lime-A-Way and a old toothbrush then put a little Vaseline on the rubber o-rings before I inserted the new cartridge. It was more work then I planned but still easier than tearing out the wall and replacing the valve. If it is a sink faucet you may be easier to buy a new faucet. I would suggest watching a youtube.com video on replacing a Moen 1200 cartridge before you start.

The unit advertised was MOEN brand (original brand) but the one they sent me was generic-- no maker name on package, unit, nor instructions. Seller offered to accept the unit for return, but I said no. Seems to work when first installed. We shall see. LATER: Well, its been in use a few weeks and its getting hard to operate. If you buy one, make sure to get a genuine MOEN brand unit. Mine is not MOEN, and I regret it.

If you are the original owner and can show receipts, Moen will send one free of charge. Otherwise, this is a good deal on an original Moen part. These brass cartridges work much better for me than the plastic ones commonly found in the big box stores.
