Ive been getting into resurrecting old consoles that have been left to die essentially, so I go through and make sure everything is cleaned up and functional and or replace parts and always add new thermal paste to the CPU/APU before I finish and Ive had no issues with it! Definitely would recommend if you know what youre doing.

Greater than one weekNot much to say, it works. However there is no need for the spread as using the pressure of the heat sink itself is the best way to spread (according to lots of people on youtube at least). This was only my 2nd time ever applying thermal paste and it went off without a hitch. Is this the best thermal paste? No idea. Could you go cheaper and it still be just as good? No idea. I knew this was a name brand and didnt want to take any chances given the $2 difference.

08-06-2025Honestly the little spreading knife is the bees knees. I have always used the nose of the tube to smear, but now I can never go back to that nonsense. The paste works great, my processor is rubbing nice and cool.

> 3 dayFor the past two years, I used this thermal paste with my Noctua fan under heavy gaming loads and have never experienced any thermal throttling or high temperatures. Much of this can be attributed to the fan, but the paste is what makes the transfer efficient so it gets full marks for that.
Performance
3 to 12 degrees centigrade lower CPU full load core temperatures than standard thermal compounds or thermal pads when measured with a calibrated thermal diode imbedded in the CPU core.
Coverage Area: A 3.5 gram syringe contains enough compound to cover at least 15 to 25 small CPU cores, or 6 to 10 large CPU cores, or 2 to 5 heat plates. At a layer 0.003" thick, the 3.5 gram syringe will cover approximately 16 square inches

Arctic Silver 5 does not contain any silicone. The suspension fluid is a proprietary mixture of advanced polysynthetic oils that work together to provide three distinctive functional phases. As it comes from the syringe, Arctic Silver 5"s consistency is engineered for easy application. During the CPU"s initial use, the compound thins out to enhance the filling of the microscopic valleys and ensure the best physical contact between the heatsink and the CPU core. Then the compound thickens slightly over the next 50 to 200 hours of use to its final consistency designed for long-term stability. (This should not be confused with conventional phase change pads that are pre-attached to many heatsinks. Those pads melt each time they get hot then re-solidify when they cool.
The viscosity changes that Arctic Silver 5 goes through are much more subtle and ultimately much more effective.)
