NO NAME
> 24 hourThis is a useful tool to stay organised. It does not always recognise the totals and other fields automatically so a lot of manual editing is required. Different receipt formats stump Neat. The soft ware should allow the user to recognise the different types of receipts. The promise of excel lists is not quite as advertised. This should be automatic. The software should also be more international , currently its set up for American tax only and oct is not multi lingual. You can however change and add new fields so with a bit of work it will be useful. Overall once you have adapted the software it will be useful and just to get my receipts saved and logged is worth it. Completely automatic it is not. May be in the future Neat will update the software to allow the user to teach the software to recognise and remember different receipt formats. May also in the future it would be good to be able to switch with between excel and neat files at the click of a button.( just a suggestion)

> 24 hourI bought this small scanner to be able to travel with me to many locations throughout the day. I like the portability of it but I was disappointed when I could not find any tech support when my documents were only scanning blank pages. After some frustration, I tried to calibrate the scanner and that seemed to work, but I was a bit confused why I had to calibrate an item right out of the box. The other issue Im having is I dont know how to scan several pages into 1 pdf or email? I usually have at least 1-5 pages to scan back to the office and its time consuming and non productive to send 5 different emails to get the job done. Since there is no tech support, Im assuming I wont get the answer? It would have been helpful if it came with a booklet to walk you thru several issues. If anyone knows the answer to my question please share it with me

> 24 hourAfter I install the app I like the look. Its like Mail, and others. But first let me tell you about myself, and why I give this 3 stars. I have been a Mac user for over 9 years (before OS 10.0) and in the last 2 or so years Macs are the in thing; ipods and iPhones are great. But this app is like a teen learning its body. I really like the scanner and App but! The scanner is a little slow; thats not a big deal to me. The Software needs a lot more added to it. First I think the app should learn what you are looking for, I have pay stubs from Quiktrip. It should learn what I Im looking at and enter what I need entered. Moreover I think that the 2.0 is really 1.0 for Mac, in the PC world I can see that it would be 2.0. But in the Mac world I think we Mac users are looking for a app that is really a 3.0 when its a 2.0 in the PC world. If you want this and need it for receipts I think you will love this app. I scanned my W-2s in and it doesnt know what that is and I have to enter all the info. The App needs a way to move the info boxs, put them in the order you need them in. I could go on and on about the app but in time I will grow to really like/love this app . If you are looking at getting this, I would think if its really worth the money. If I had to do it over again I would test drive the app and see if it is really what I need. I will keep using it because I can make it work for what I want it to do. Im trying to free my home office of paper, and in time I can do it with this app. Could I have done it for free.... well ya the apps is like Mail, bento and so on. I dont know if this review helped but just think about it before you buy it.

> 24 hourIt doesnt work as advertised. 1. When asked, after plugging in, to open my Address Book (Mac), it was surprised that I have few thousands of entrees. OK I can live with that and NOT import my data base, since it said on the screen that it will jeopardize the system. 2. When I scanned regular business cards, it did NOT recognize the name on the card which was in the middle of the card, bold and obvious. It placed part of the address into First name and last name. Total mess of information. When I contacted support with screen capture samples of what am I getting, their answer was that this is designed only for typical USA business cards, which is totally not true, since the cards I have been scanning where exactly that as well among other cards around the world, that I did just to test it. 3. Then I scanned receipts and it recognized only one thing. The amount. Everything else was NOT recognized. When I reported that they gave me a list of things that they do not support, from Bank statements (withdrawal) to ....ATM etc. In their advertisement it says that they will recognize the vendor and the vendor was clear bold and in black fonts, totally unrecognized. 4. Since I hope so much for this to work, I called the sales, since they do not have phone support as they said and then I learned that they DO have support over the phone but it cost $29.95. That was not advertised. I can go further, but time is all I have. Although a very neat idea, it is not working as of now. I wish them all the best to improve, but drastically or drop the whole concept. We need such gadgets desperately, so I hope that they will succeed.

> 24 hourWorks very much as I expected. Dont like that it can skew the recept as it is scanning. Scan image is good. Software works nice on mac. Just use for receipts. Have bigger scanner for full page.

> 24 hourLoved this at first but turned out to be junk. I have had it for almost 2 years and I only use it around tax time. It sits in a desk drawer and has very few hours on it. The first year the software lost all my scanned receipts after I did the recommended update. Hesitant to update again, a few weeks ago, I did after it could not locate my files. After the update my scanner started scanning black pages. Technical support logged onto my computer and tried to fix the problem. Conclusion: your scanner is broken and you need to replace it. So for $200 you can buy a scanner that doesnt last 2 years.

> 24 hourAfter various attempts to tame the mounds of paper that threaten to engulf my office, this package has the best chance. The scanner is a thing of beauty in itself. The software is very, very stable (Readiris take note) very cocoa yummy, mac OSX friendly. There is a capability to produce SEARCHABLE standalone OCR/image pdfs independent OR file within the neat office ecosystem, which is excellently designed, and probably the best way to manage receipts. In truth, the OCR is only about as good as anyone elses, so that means that receipt or business card scanning still requires quite a lot of hands on manipulation. That said, its stable (did I mention that?), the data management is elegant, receipt scanning/analysis is still reasonably efficient, and Ive been able to pressgang my 12YO into handling it.. in lieu of her running wild with my itunes account. Neat appear to have a commitment to upgrading the software - my WISHLIST for future development includes: Evernote integration (Im sure they are working this as I write) Batch applicable editing (eg Tags, categorization etc Tonal adjustment of scans (to reduce background noise and cruft) TWAIN for third party image photoshoppery (assuming this doesnt exist somewhere already) Generally smarter OCR. But all in all, this (after a seriously disappointing experience with IRiScan and Readiris), is the first practical solution Ive experienced. Incoming paperwork that might be needed is efficiently scanned, OCRd, and recycled.. (now coming to an egg carton near you). Neat is highly recommended.

> 24 hourWere finally completely paperless since using NeatReceipts. I only have 2 significant critiques: 1- I have to unplug and replug every time I plan to scan. Not between receipts, but between scanning sessions; 2- I have to constantly review dates and totals because sometimes the automatic fields will be filled in incorrectly. Neither of these are major issues or problems, so I really have no complaints. My favorite feature is the tax form section. This will make our tax prep so much easier next year, having our deductions already organized by forms.

DJ Evillincoln!?
> 24 hourSo a good friend of mine who is a producer/ DJ told me that I needed to be up on this Neat scanner & Id always wanted one so I decided to take him up on it. Im actually happy I did. The quality of the scanner is fantastic... I actually dropped it a few times now on a hard wood floor & it hasnt broken yet which is a big deal for me. The quality of the scans are good also & installation for my compy (MacMini) was simple & super easy. I ddint have a CD drive though so I had to go to Neat.com to download the software. Scanning receipts is also extremely easy as is the organization set up in the Neat program. The ONLY issue I had with this is the number recognition which Ill get into below... Most of the time this scanner seems to get all of the numbers just blatantly wrong. A 6 will be an 8, a 1 will be a 7, or a 5 will be a 4. It seems to really depend on the FONT the receipt is written in. Long receipts like Best Buy for instance it will always get wrong. Completely abandon the idea that this thing will read your chickenscratch you call handwriting. All restaurant receipts will have to be entered by hand. Which, to Neats credit, is amazingly simple & not very time consuming at all. After a while because not many receipts are read the right way, you get used to it. Whats upsetting is that when this thing does it right, the whole process from feeding the paper into the machine to moving on to the next item, is less than 30 seconds. Most of the time though, if youre thorough & adding the business name & taxes paid ect... that turns into 1:00 of time easily. Im an actor & a DJ. I can write off QUITE a bit so even if this thing doesnt get it right all the time, it still saves me TONS of time because of the sheer amount things I can write off. The sheer fact that this thing will allow me to throw away all that paper is a blessing. The only place where Neat can improve this scanner is the resolution to be able to scan numbers more clearly. Besides that, not a bad effort at all.

> 24 hourI bought this to get myself organized. The software is great (once you figure out how to use it, which isnt easy). The scanner works well with heavy paper such as business cards and some checks, but is virtually impossible to use with thinner paper, especially letter size sheets. I have yet to get a single piece of paper to feed straight. No matter how meticulously I align the paper, the scanner will twist it and turn it so by the time it is half way through it is at a 30 degree angle. It comes out twisted and the resulting scan is distorted. It installs easily, but is impossible to use. About every third or fourth scan, it will no longer feed or if it does, the software will say that the scan cannot be completed even though the entire document has been fed through the scanner. The only solution I have found is to quit NeatWorks, unplug the scanner, plug it back in, and then restart NeatWorks. Then after three or four scans, repeat this process. Obviously the hardware has lots of bugs that the company needs to fix. The concept is great, and I had high hopes for it, but clearly it is going to require way too much work to scan most documents. Instead of being a time saver, it has become a time waster.
