> 3 dayI bought this radio as an incentive to get back on the air after a 20 year hiatus. I had a HR2600 packed away all that time but it does not work any more so decided to replace it with this one. I am not into all of this programming stuff but I am glad that at least it has conventional volume, squelch RF output power, mic gain and RF gain. I am sure there are many that would buy this radio due to the easy conversion to CB but I would not recommend that as it is illegal to operate on CB and also voids the warantee. RF output is as stated in the specs when connected to a dummy load and also to my 35 year old Collinear Ground Plane antenna. There is a rotary control to use as a vfo and also up down buttons on the mic to change frequency. The noise blanker is effective. The internal speaker is effective in an relatively quiet area and there is provision for a plug in external speaker if desired. I got good reports on the transmit audio and the receive sensitivity is very good as well. For the most part the comprehensive instruction manual is rather straight forward but I am still trying to figure out how to set up the PL tone and offset for FM repeater operation. I used this radio for field day 2020 operating as a 1D station and for the most part if I could hear em I could work em with this radio. Of course band conditions will dictate what kind of results you will get. I would not suggest buying this radio for use on Citizen Band ( CB ) . If you want to be on CB buy a type accepted CB radio ( for a lot less money ) and be legal about it.

> 3 dayI bought this to replace an old Cobra. I had this tuned when I bought it and it arrived ready to go. It is being used as a base station with a simple inverted V dipole antenna. Works great! The receiver is pretty good for this type of radio. Not as good as the one on my Yaesu 991A but then what is. The transmit is good, it puts out a solid 30-35 watts PEP and the audio sounds clean and well balanced. I get decent communications with mobiles about to about ten miles on AM and a bit further on SSB. I use it to monitor 38LSB so I know when skip is coming in.
